CUB SCOUTERS!

School Night for Scouting is HERE!!

As we start to move into the new school year, our attention turns to recruiting new Scouts!  We have an outstanding opportunity to help bring the scouting program to more boys than we have in the past.  The SNFS program that we are rolling out has been used successfully and implemented in out councils with great success.  Yes, I know it's a change and it's a little outside our comfort zone.  As a Scoutmaster, I am always telling the boys where you learn the most and grow into a stronger person, is when you are in a situation where you are outside your comfort zone.  It's our turn Scouters! We need to take this program and make it happen!  Being successful at recruiting the Cub Scouts not only has an immediate effect on how the packs run, and in a couple of years, helps our troops, but also impacts our nation down the road as the boys graduate from the program and move into leadership roles in corporations and the nation.

LET'S MAKE THIS THE BEST FALL RECRUITMENT EVERY!!!

Back to the Pack

Welcome Back to the Pack

The Glacier's Edge Council Membership Committee is pleased to announce the "Welcome Back to the Pack" plan. The idea is to help prepare for the fall by signing up old members early and recruiting needed leadership before School Night for Scouting.   Each fall, Cub Scout Packs receive a "new start" with their Fall Round-up. New Cub Scouts attend the School Night for Scouting to be assigned to a den. New den leaders are recruited from those parents in attendance to work with the new den. New den leaders will be informed of the multiple training opportunities in the fall.

Somewhere in the middle of all the hustle and bustle with promoting new boys to join Cub Scouts, many old members are not contacted and invited to come back from the summer break that many packs take.  Hence, membership is lost along with potential leadership from their parents.

The Council Membership Committee is encouraging a "Welcome Back to the Pack" meeting in August. During August, prior to any School Night for Scouting round-up, each pack should hold its first meeting of the new program year. The purpose of the meeting will be to sign up old members for the coming Scouting year, recruit leadership to fill vacancies (whether it be Cubmaster, den leader, Webelos den leader, or committee member), and to discuss plans for pack activities for the fall.

An individual pack will develop its own promotional plan to ensure that all members are contacted personally to receive a commitment for their participation in a new year of Cub Scout adventures.  Research has shown that many boys will not continue without being personally contacted. In other words, in their minds, they have taken a vacation during the summer and are waiting to be contacted about when to start attending meetings again.

Remember:  In August, all Cub Scouts should be contacted about the "Welcome Back to the Pack" meeting and encouraged to become active in Cub Scouts for the fall. . If you have not already done so, please start planning your "Welcome Back to the Pack" activity now.

Cub Scout Day Camps and STEM

At Day Camps in June, Cub Scouts launched into science and engineering with enthusiasm. For example, building marshmallow shooters and catapults was FUN!  Each started with a pattern, but in the end no two looked exactly alike, since each future engineer had their own vision. Creative experimental design, testing, analysis, and redesign = Science in Action! Nature hikes, BB guns, archery, and other STEM related activities help scientific principles become real for our Scouts. Thanks to all the volunteers who help make this possible at camp and year-round.
