STEM & NOVA
Camping and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
Cub Scouts' outdoor summer fun includes sports and outdoor activities such as baseball, ultimate, bb-guns or fishing. Did you know these all involve levers and help them meet some of the Cub Nova Swing Award requirements?
Energizing Scout camp activities or merit badges like canoeing, motor boating, space exploration, rifle or shotgun shooting, archery, environmental science , nature and more all apply towards Boy Scout and Venturer Nova awards.
These are just a couple examples of how the new STEM awards program works with our existing Scout outdoor programs, so have fun camping and with STEM.

Janesville Explorers Compete-earn Awards
Explorer Post 555 competed June 1, 2013 at the North Shore Explorer Combat Challenge. Organized and hosted by North Shore Fire Department, the competition featured teams from 8 area fire departments (Janesville, Menomenee Falls, Cedarburg, Hales Corners, Milwaukee, North Shore, Oak Creek, Menasha). The Explorers completed five stations of fire-service related tasks for time. They also had the opportunity to run the same course as a 3-5 person relay team.
The Janesville Post 555 team, consisting of Cody K, Brandon H, Ashten W, Brian H, and Isaac G, placed third over-all, beating out some very large and very talented posts. The relay team of Brandon H, Cody K, and Brian H. placed third in the relay division, narrowly missing second place. Two members also took individual honors: Brandon H. - 1st in the 19 year old age group, Cody K. took 6th over-all. Several other members posted great times, finishing just outside of the top ten over-all, but contributing in a BIG way to the final team standing.
Thanks for taking the time to recognize their most recent success!
