The New Roundtable Practices Adopted for 2013
Hello fellow Commissioners. I thought I would share with you a topic that was brought to my attention by the Indian Trails District Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner. The source of the information below is scout-wire.org and the article was posted on 07 March 2013. Based on my review, I think there are several very good ideas presented. Please note that the post was heavily edited so I encourage you to go to the
website to read the full text.
I am not sure how we, in the Indian Trails District, will implement the recommendations, but we certainly will study the recommendations and implement what makes sense for us. I encourage my fellow
District Commissioners to do the same.

A volunteer Roundtable Task Force was started in 2011. The mission of the task force was:
- Undertake a comprehensive study of how effectively we are delivering and supporting roundtables in the various types of councils around the country, with a separate focus on the needs of each of our traditional programs: Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturing;
- Improve the content and quality of Roundtable communications and training support by identifying and deploying best methods and developing technology resources that will result in more effective administration of roundtables,
- Coordinate with other task forces and the BSA National Council to jointly develop and deliver the "next generation" of roundtables as we enter our second century of unit service.
Shown below are the task force's recommendations approved as standard practice beginning in 2013: Assistant Roundtable Commissioners (name change): Program-specific roundtable commissioners for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity, and Venturing are responsible for the development and delivery of their monthly meeting agenda and program items. All others who assist these individuals are deemed assistant roundtable commissioners.
The current patches, Roundtable Staff patches will be replaced with the patch shown here.
The two positions described below are recommended as standardized operating practice.
1. Assistant Council Commissioner-Roundtable (new position): this person would report to the council commissioner and conduct an annual council-wide roundtable planning meeting followed up by a
midyear review.
2. Assistant District Commissioner-Roundtable (new position): This person would report to the district commissioner and work with the district structure, but needs to be responsive to and work in
cooperation with the ACC roundtable to see that the annual planning and midyear review programs are well attended by the district program-specific roundtable commissioners.
Roundtable Best Practices
There are 11 best practice ideas that have been gathered to date. Look HERE to check them out! Others will be added as they become available. Specifically, the task force is looking for ways to meet the needs of
various geographic groups: urban/suburban, rural, technology-rich, technology-poor, etc.

CUB SCOUTS
Cub Scout Packs for Summer Camps
Howdy partner! The Glacier's Edge Council Sheriff has put out the wanted posters for those Glacier's Edge Cub Scout Packs that are going to be attending one of his camps this summer. The Sheriff needs to know your plans so he can take you of his wanted list. Help us plan for the Summer 2013 Cub Scout Camps by telling us which camp(s) your Pack is planning to attend. Please complete the Cub Camp Interest Form at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2013CubCampPlan . By completing the form your Pack will be on the list for the camp. While the Cub Interest Form does not guarantee your spot at camp, being on the list will allow us to contact you should the camp(s) you chose approach the capacity number for the camp. To lock in your spot at a given camp you must submit a youth roster and payment.
Please make sure all Camp Rosters are turned into the Service Centers ASAP!!

Webelos Expedition
May 10-12th
3nd annual special event targeted exclusively to 4th grade Webelos, our current Webelos I Scouts.
This event will provide a quality outdoor experience, challenging and fun activities, and a stirring ceremony. The entire program is meant to fire the boys up for their final year of Cub Scouts and provide a glimpse of the excitement that awaits them as Boy Scouts.The Expedition is just around the corner. Mark your calendars now, talk to your Webelos I and plan to participate in this event. The activities will stress scout and outdoor skills, authentic Expedition/Native American culture, and fun! BOY SCOUTS Pre-Camp Swim Test for CIT and EBSR The Glacier's Edge Council Aquatics is sponsoring Pre-Camp swim checks as an option for Troops attending a Glaciers Edge Boy Scout Summer Camp this year. Only swim checks done at one of these events by Council Aquatic Committee approved administrators will be accepted instead of an on-site swim check on Sunday check-in at our council camps. Troops which can not, or choose not to take advantage of Pre-Camp swim checks offered by the Glacier's Edge Aquatics Committee will do swim checks as part of their Sunday check-in at camp. Check HERE for how to sign up. 2013 Badger Orienteering Club Scout Event Saturday April 6th For the 15th year, the Badger Orienteering Club will hold its annual scout event. Form one or more teams from your pack or troop and join the fun! Girl and Boy Scouts are encouraged to join the fun! For Boy Scouts, this is a great opportunity to fulfill part of the requirements of the Orienteering Merit Badge!! This is a "Score-O" event. Participants earn points for each control marker they find within a 45-minute time limit. Participants can visit controls in any order, but must return to the finish within 45 minutes to avoid penalty points. For more Info: Backpack Camporee April 26-28 Join us in filling the valley with scouts from the Glacier Edge Council where the Woodman Center will host the sixth annual Glacier's Edge Council-wide Backpack Camporee. This camporee will give scouts/scouters a chance to learn basic to advanced backpacking skills (water filtration, light weight stove usage and backpack food demonstration), Basic to ultra light equipment demonstrations, Leave No Trace camping, Wilderness First aid and Geocaching. All 7 geocaches will be in new locations this year! We will have the "Boulders" climbing wall again this year! There will be adult training and High Adventure information regarding preparation/ planning and conditioning. We encourage sharing your troop's/crew's adventures with other scouts/scouters. We will be recycling car seats and are in need of volunteers to help "tear" down the car seats. I was hoping you could share this with local troops as a community service event. They do not need to be there the whole time any help they could give us would be greatly appreciated. We would provide all the tools needed. The event will run from 9 am to 12 pm, breakfast (bagels, coffee, juice) and lunch (usually pizza) will be provided to anyone who can help. Come for the day or come for a few hours to assist with grounds and house spring clean up. Bring your rakes, shovels, pruning equipment, cleaning supplies. We have 5.5 acres of yard work that needs to be taken care of plus a large farm house that needs cleaning. Your efforts will be rewarded with food, refreshments and entertainment by the famous Krause Family Band. Also available opportunities for some Eagle Scout projects.
