Scammers send fake emails using the IRS name and logo to appear legitimate in an attempt to steal personal and financial information from you. The IRS never initiates communication with taxpayers via email regarding your personal information.
Do not reply to emails that appear from the IRS. Do not open any attachments and do not click on any links in suspicious emails. Forward any suspicious emails appearing to be from the IRS to phishing@irs.gov or report them to the IRS here. The IRS website is www.irs.gov. Do not provide personal information on any other site claiming to be the IRS.
