The Shamrock

May 25, 2016

This week Father Dick asked us to consider what it is to be a steward and what it is that we are stewarding, or, put another way, of what are we stewards? Our responses were placed on the altar and blessed. Far too many to list here, but St. Patrick's is stewarding many good things. They include:

  • Creativity
  • Empathy
  • Money
  • Hospitality
  • Our families/children/parents/spouses/cats/dogs/snakes
  • Malachi's Storehouse
  • Our youth and children
  • teaching that there is enough, that we are enough
  • helping others through grief and loss
  • listening
  • empathy
  • time
  • encouragement
  • cooking
  • God's creation
  • Scripture-sharing and teaching God's word
  • newcomers
  • the law
  • kindness
  • God's love
  • summer's landing
  • teaching
  • God's creatures
  • peace
  • laughter
  • joy
and one final one that has truth for us all: Still trying to figure it out. Searching.

MEMORIAL DAY

Prayer for those in the Armed Forces of our Country (from the Book of Common Prayer): Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
A NOTE FROM SARAH
Friends: It is with great delight that I tell you I'm on a new adventure. In June I will begin working on my Doctorate in Ministry at Sewanee, with a focus on preaching. This summer I'll be taking a course on Art in Preaching and another course on the theology of the Eucharist. I've got a lot of reading to do between now and then!! Here are my books!

I will be away for a Stewardship Board meeting and conference the last week in May, and then I leave for Sewanee the first week in June. I'll be back on June 26. If you've ever
been to Sewanee, you'll know that cell phone reception is spotty at best. And I'll be busy studying, so I won't be checking email. So please don't think I'm ignoring you, but I won't be easy to reach during that time. If there's a true emergency, Father Dick will be able to reach me, so please let him know.

It's an exciting adventure and I can't wait to get started! And I'll be so glad to come home and tell you all about it.

Peace & all good,
Sarah+

A NOTE FROM SARAH ABOUT CHILDREN'S CHURCH

As we move to into summer, Children's Church will be taking a break. First Sundays will continue to include a special time for children to come down and be part of the sermon. Look in the back for crayons and lectionary based coloring pages-our ushers will help you find them! Please let me know if you have any questions. Peace, Sarah+

NEW NURSERY STAFF INTRODUCTION

Hello, my name is Princess Stenson and I am so happy to be at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church. I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA in a rather large family. Being number five out of eight children has given me the much needed skills to fulfill my dream of teaching young children. Having this opportunity to work with children and families is the best and most rewarding job. I have been working as a nanny for the last five years, and before that I worked as a preschool teacher for 6 years. In my spare time I enjoy doing arts & crafts - I'm a big fan of pinterest because I love finding new projects to explore.

AND ALSO WITH Y'ALL: PEACE, PAJAMAS, AND PATRICK
Sunday Evenings in August

This summer, we're going to offer a season of peace. On Sunday evenings in August, we will invite the entire parish to participate in what we're calling And also with y'all: Peace, Pajamas and Patrick. From 5:00-7:00 PM, all who wish are invited to a simple supper, program and play focused on peace. We'll be looking at peace in the world, peace in humanity and peace in our hearts. We'll have wonderful activities, all-ages games and adventures, and a time to reflect in small groups. ALL AGES are welcome and encouraged. Come to one or two sessions or come to the all! And we'll send you home all ready to be tucked in, so kids, youth and courageous adults are invited and welcome to come in their PJs!

I hope you'll mark this event on your calendar. Want to be part of the planning team? Let Mo. Sarah know!

** Please note: this replaces the previously scheduled Family Summer Camp in July. **
