WELCOME
Becky Beal, our new Director of Children's Ministries

Dear friends,
Alleluia, Christ is risen!

I am thrilled to announce that St. Patrick's has called Becky Beal to be our Director
Becky Beal
of Children's Ministries! Becky's first Sunday at St. Patrick's will be June 5.

Becky comes to us with many years of children's Christian formation experience, having been Director of Children's Ministries at St. David's Episcopal Church in Roswell, and most recently at The Episcopal Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Marietta. Over the course of her professional career, Becky has also taught in public, private and parochial Pre-K and Elementary schools.
Becky describes her philosophy of children's formation as the 'Three I's':

Invitation: to be a part of a loving community with teachers who are welcoming every Sunday.
Integration: to encourage parents to become a part of a small group, in addition to worship.
Intergeneration: to build relationships in the loving care of people of all ages, which will help them hold on to their faith as they mature.

Becky's experience, coupled with her generative philosophy and passion for children and their formation, make her the ideal person to lead our Children's Ministries. And to her great joy (and ours), Becky will be able to worship with her family at St. Patrick's, something she has desired for many years. Some of you may already know that Becky is the mother of our Youth Director, Liz Beal Kidd! Liz and Becky have worked well together in children and youth ministries over the years, so we are very excited about the great synergies they will bring to these ministries at St. Patrick's.

Please join me in thanking our Children and Youth Ministry Renovation team for their great and inspired work in the process that led to our calling Becky (Cowen Harter [Chair], Judi Carlson, Teresa Hoyt, Sherry Meek, and Mo. Sarah Fisher).

The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!

A NOTE FROM SARAH
about Children's Ministries

On Sunday I invited folks to sign up to participate in a July, VBS style parish event, focusing on peace. On Monday, as a staff, we decided to do a complete overhaul of our original plans
Mo. Sarah Fisher
. A survey sent to parents with young children and some asking around of other folks in the parish quickly revealed to us this truth: the week we selected was horrible. What a wonderful opportunity this gave us to dream anew.

On Monday, a crew of us dreamed up a new idea that we are so excited about. I hope you will be part of it. This summer, we're going to offer a season of peace. On Sunday evenings in August, we will invite the entire parish to participate in what we're calling And also with y'all: Peace, Pajamas and Patrick. From 5:00-7:00 PM, all who wish are invited to a simple supper, program and play focused on peace. We'll be looking at peace in the world, peace in humanity and peace in our hearts. We'll have wonderful activities, all-ages games and adventures, and a time to reflect in small groups. ALL AGES are welcome and encouraged. Come to one or two sessions or come to the all! And we'll send you home all ready to be tucked in, so kids, youth and courageous adults are invited and welcome to come in their PJs!

I hope you'll mark this event on your calendar. Want to be part of the planning team? Let me know!

SPARKS Meeting Tues., May 17, 10 a.m., Room 8: We will enter, unarmed, into enemy territory - Medicare, with more parts than tere are notes in an octave, supplement plans, advantage plans, drug costs and enrollments.  We expect heavy casualties!  Being serious for a moment, this is a subject most important to us all for which the key time is year end. However, the requests for feedback on priorities put this one on the frontest burner. Discussion among friends will help set us up to understand what we see and read  on the subject and for some of us there may be moves we can make now.  Also, calling help lines and other research will be easier before the hectic enrollment period and set us up for that time of battle (sorry - just couldn't let go). Everyone will learn something from our various war stories and medals will be awarded. (the medals are of course round. They are also soft and soggy and have a hole in the middle) Be there or be square.

Foyers Groups:
A delightful Foyers dinner party was hosted by Pam & Bruce Wilson at their home on April 29 with nineteen people in attendance. Foyers is the longest running fellowship ministry at St. Patrick's. A new group is forming now and awaiting your participation. Please send an email to rankin@bellsouth.net or contact Diane at 404 2775388 for additional information.

Stephen Ministry: Changes can be difficult, especially when they are unexpected. Stephen Ministers are trained to help people learn to cope with unwelcome changes in their lives for as long as they are needed. If youhave experienced great changes or know someone who has, learn more about Stephen Ministry by contacting Fr. Dick at (770) 455-6523 or Anne Duncan at (770) 454-9053, annebduncan@gmail.com.
