Advent at St. Patrick's

Week of Advent IV (12/21) - Love

Sat., 12/20, 1 p.m.-Malachi's toy distribution

During the season of Advent, we would like to incorporate some of the prayers of folks here at St. Patrick's during the Prayers of the People.

For the Sundays of Advent, we invite folks to reflect on the four themes of Advent.

Each week we will offer questions that you may use as part of your Advent devotion in coming up with your prayer. The questions will also be published in the bulletin and the Shamrocks the week prior. Please write your prayer on a slip of paper and place it in the bowl on the round table in the Narthex. At 10:15 a.m.on each Sunday in Advent, the Prayer Intercessors will select 10 prayers each service to be shared aloud during each of the 3 services offered (Sundays at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., Wed. 12:15 p.m.).

Questions for Advent VI (Dec. 21): Love
    • Where do you give thanks and praise for God's LOVE in your life this week?  In the world this week?
    • Where does God's LOVE need to be brought into your life this week?  In the world this week?

PARISH HAPPENINGS

St. Patrick's Christmas Party: Did you have a great time at the Christmas party last Saturday night? It takes many hands to put on a party like that!  While all those showing their talents were recognized and applauded, there were many less visible parishioners that volunteered their time before, during and after the party to make it a wonderful time for all. Next time you see any of the following people please thank them for helping out with the Christmas Party: Bruce Wilson (he arranged for the wonderful stage and a lot more!), Tom Nichols, Ramsay Hall, Victoria Schwartz, Allison Game, Keith Harper, James Tola, Chad Watkins, Bill Murphy, Mary Lambert, Patti Barrett, Steve Barrett, Mona Walasek, Don Reddicks, Dana Dolan, Fr. Dick, Julia Gabert, Sherry Meek, Star Severens, Diane Rankin, Anne Duncan, Leslie Bishop, Bill Rankin, Donna Kunz, Brenda Marquis, Tim Toth, Ginger Toth, Marcia Hutchins, and any others you saw pitching in to help clean up! And then thank yourselves for bringing such wonderful food. God is so good!

Advent Meditation Booklet Available on Website: Due to an overwhelmingly positive response to the Art Retreat Advent booklet, we ran out early.  More will be available Sunday and if you missed it, here is the link so you can print or read online (it's on the front page under "upcoming events"). We will print more next time!  Cheers, The Art Department

Cookie Bake: Sunday, Dec. 21, following the 10:30 a.m. liturgy - You are invited to a cookie baking party in the kitchen. We will be making a variety of cookies, which will be delivered on Dec. 24 to the Peachtree-Pine shelter, where they will be served as refreshments following an ecumenical service. Come, bake, taste-test and celebrate! Adult helpers are needed so that children can actively participate in the baking process! To volunteer to help, please contact Sarah Fisher at 770-455-6523 or email her here.

Christmas Eve Ecumenical Service: All are welcome to attend an ecumenical service at the Peachtree-Pine shelter at 10:00 a.m. on Dec. 24. Come and share Christmas carols and a joy filled service that will be attended by more than 200 of our friends who are homeless. Mother Sarah will be attending and delivering cookies that we make on Sunday, Dec. 21. For more information, please contact Sarah Fisher at 770-455-6523 or email her here.

Youth Mission Trip:
All rising 7th-12th graders are invited to participate in a mission trip is to Harrisburg, PA, June 14-19, 2015. Deadline to sign up is this week. $100 deposit due by February 1, 2015, but scholarships are available. RSVP or questions to Mother Sarah.

Foyers Groups:
Want to get in on the fun? New Foyers dinner party groups will be forming in January. Reserve your spot with Bill and Diane Rankin. One St. Patrick's foyers group finished in style Friday night while attending Emory University Concert Choir's Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols. 14 parishioners and their guests attended and were entertained after the concert with scrumptious desserts at the home of Mike & JoAnne Cropper.

Pledge Cards Available Online:If you didn't pick up your 2015 pledge card at St. Patrick's, you can find one on our website. Click here to get to it, then print, fill out, and return to the church office.

Gifts for Life Will Transform a Life This Christmas: As we rush from store to store, website to website looking for those gifts to please those we cherish, please consider a small gift to change one life this Christmas. The Episcopal Relief and Development arm of our faith tradition has made it simple, easy and affordable to transform lives all over this Earth we share. Micro loans for women to pull themselves out of poverty allowing them to care for their children, seeds for villages to plant crops with life sustaining vegetables, maternity care for those located in areas of high mortality rates, goats to provide milk to a household and clean drinking water are but a few ways that your precious gift will change lives. Would you consider joining us this Christmas in "paying it forward"? Please email James Tola at jamesnolantola@gmail.com   with questions and brochures will be at church showing you how simple you can bring HOPE, JOY and PEACE!
