Gratitude

Dear Friends,

Thank you very much!!! Really! Thanks to each of you for your presence. You have stayed the course through good and difficult times. You are actively involved in the life of the church. As a parish we are blessed by your commitment to support our community! We could not be who we are if it weren't for each person contributing your presence and talent along with your contributions.

With the arrival of October, the church finance committee begins thinking about the budget for the next calendar year. Preparing a budget is a difficult task without help from all of us. We provide them with the framework on which to build the plan for next year by pledging.

This year we would like to invite the parish to talk about Gratitude. Please think about it from your perspective. It could be the music at the 10:30 a.m. service, the contemporary service, the Gathering service. Perhaps it's the Wednesday night dinners and study, home groups, other small groups or ministry and friendships that have contributed to your spiritual life. Your gratitude shapes the way you feel about God and St. Patrick's. Terri Lynn Taylor once wrote, "Gratitude is our most direct line to God and the angels."

Gratitude is inspiring, it lifts us up. We become our most welcoming when we talk about what we are grateful for. We encourage you to talk about gratitude among friends, in small groups, meetings and social events. Stories and events as shared by others can be inspirational. We hope these stories and events are inspirational when considering your level of giving for the coming year.

Sincerely,

The 2014 stewardship committee

Music by Ramsay and friends. This is an *OPEN* invitation to all ages, for anyone who may enjoy an off-center, earthy and experiential approach to gathered spirituality.

Welcome to the Rev. Sarah Fisher:

I am thrilled to announce that The Rev. Sarah Fisher will join our staff as Associate Rector on November 30, the first Sunday of Advent! What a wonderful way to begin the new year!

Sarah is a native of Athens, Georgia. A graduate of the General Theological Seminary, Sarah has served churches the Dioceses of Chicago and Atlanta, as well as a sojourn as a chaplain in a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. She is passionate about thrift-store shopping, liturgy, laughing, Jerusalem, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, coffee, the Camino de Santiago, and finding the perfect pair of socks. She shares her life with her partner Mandy. They live in Decatur with Sojo the Wonderkitty.

I am so very grateful for the hard and prayerful work of discernment by our Search Committee over these past few months, and particularly for the leadership of Cowen Harter, Chair. Others who served on the committee include Judi Carlson, Sean Dolan, Bonnie Dykes, Martha Mills, Taylor Harper, Wendy Lauber, Cari Stephens, and Wayne Ware. Give them a big hug of gratitude when you see them!

With rejoicing!

Volunteers Needed: We need some volunteers for a transportation ministry:

  • We need for volunteers who would be willing to transport folks to church events.
  • We also need those who need a ride to let us know in the church office.
  • And we're looking for someone to coordinate those who need rides with those who are willing to transport.

Please call the church office at 770.455.6523 if you fit any of these spots!
