Peace Give I To Thee...

I suppose in the history of humankind every age can claim its moments of chaos. But these past few weeks worldwide, nationally, and a few closer-to-home events have heightened my awareness of the many ways that disorder invades the promise of holy, divine peace that Jesus offers (John 14:27).

It seems that now is the time (as ever) for the body Christ to pray.

I invite you to an hour of prayer at noon this Friday, August 22. Let us sit again with Jesus in silence, bidding the one who calmed the sea to bring order out of chaos, peace where there is strife, and joy where there is grief.

I plan to take my hour in the Chapel and would be delighted for you to join me there. Bring a brown bag lunch and we can break bread afterwards and share what we experience.

Peace!

PARISH HAPPENINGS

Aug. 24 Hospitality House Help Needed:  Fun times in the Parish Hall this Sunday! We still have plenty of opportunities to provide a salad, dessert or casserole/sandwiches for our potluck lunch with Bishop Wimberly along with setup and cleanup help.  Please email Joanne Cropper to sign up.

We will be happy to keep your casseroles warm on Sunday so just drop them off in the kitchen. You can also drop off salads and desserts. We haven't had a good old fashion potluck in a while and this will give us the opportunity to have a meal as a church family and catch up with each other.

Line Dancing with the Being Mary and Martha Group: We had 15 St. Patrick's ladies and 10 from the Dorothy Benson Senior Center. Thanks to Joan Reddicks for arranging this!

Name tags: Remember, wear your name tag when you come to nametag St. Patrick's! They're hanging alphabetically on the name tag board. Each Sunday the board can be found in the narthex. Otherwise it lives in the back hallway. If you need a nametag, please email Amanda Vaughn or fill out the form that can be found Sunday mornings in the narthex on the stand next to the visitor's book.

Closed Sign

Office Closure: The church office will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, in observance of Labor Day. It will reopen on Tuesday morning, Sept. 2, at 9:00 a.m.

Vestry Meetings:

These meetings are open to all. The next Vestry Meeting is Sunday, Sept. 21 at 12:30 p.m. in Room 8.

WORSHIP

Bishop Visitation: The Right Rev. Don A. Wimberly will join us on Aug. 24. Bishop Wimberly is retired from full-time ministry and lives in Roswell, Ga., with his wife, Wendy. He is the former diocesan bishop of two Episcopal dioceses: Texas and Lexington, Ky, and also has and served parishes in New York, Louisiana, Kansas and Florida.

We will celebrate the baptism of Oliver Cone; the reception of Bill Shaughnessy, Doug Carlson, Judi Carlson, Rosey Shope, Jonathan Cone, and Nicole Cone; and the reaffirmation of Tom Dusenberry.

MINISTRY NEWS

Stephen Ministry: Just call Stephen Ministers the "after" people. After you find the pink slip in what's now your final paycheck, after the doctors have said there's nothing more they can do, after the relationship ends but the wounds are still bleeding, after family and friends have heard your story one too many times but you still need to talk it out--tStephen Ministrieshat's when the Stephen Ministers step in.

A free and confidential service, Stephen Ministry takes folks who are struggling with a special need and pairs them with lay persons who have been trained as Stephen Ministers to offer them not advice or counsel, but Christian support and care.

As you consider your spiritual gifts and how to use them, you may find that the Holy Spirit is calling you to be present to those in our community who need companionship and a caring, Christian listener who will understand and be supportive during a difficult time. If you would like to learn more about this important ministry and how you might help, please call Anne Duncan 770-454-9053. The next training class for new Stephen Ministers will begin in September, 2014.
