The Shamrock - August 6, 2014

Jesus is calling you!

Dear friends,

The feeding of the multitude from five loaves and two fish was not just a Jesus event. (Matthew 14:13-21). Jesus did bless the bread; that much is true. But the miracle involved -- in fact required the faithfulness of others.

I imagine the disciples may have felt a little foolish as they passed those near-empty baskets to the first among the thousands. But they heard Jesus' call: "You give them something to eat!" They acted on that call. And at the end of the day all were filled...with leftovers to spare!

What it took for the disciples and what it takes for us is the faith to act when Jesus calls.

So are you ready to participate in a miracle? This week let us listen for the nudges of the Holy Spirit during our quiet times. And let us pray for each other for the faith to act on those nudges. Come back on Sunday to share at the Rector's Forum between the services, at Hospitality House after the 10:30, or during the services if you are so moved (we will set aside a little time just for you). Or write a little article for The Shamrock. We want to hear your miracle stories!

Blessings!

Ministry Update

Stephen Ministry: We can all make St. Patrick's a more caring place with a bright smile, a sincere greeting, a warm hug, and a word of encouragement. As you greet people this morning, let them know how much you care. And remember, when you meet someone with extra needs, remind them that our Stephen Ministers are specially trained to be there for them during life's crises and challenges. Call Fr Dick at (770) 455-6523 for a referral to a Stephen Minister.

Backpacks: Kingswood United Methodist called and wanted to partner with us for backpacks for Malachi's kids! They graciously provided us with 50 backpacks! We want to fill those backpacks with the necessary stuff kids need in order to be prepared. If you'd like to make a donation to fill a backpack simply go to www.e-giving.org and donate any amount. $25 will fill one backpack! Thank you so much for your continued generosity toward our Malachi's Storehouse kids. God bless you, Kathy

We are also collecting backpacks as the school year starts up again. If you'd like to provide a backpack with some supplies, please drop them off by the Malachi's Storehouse room in the back hall. We will be glad to find deserving children in need of them.

Malachi's Storehouse Needs:

Website - Do you know WordPress? We are needing a guru to help us with the MSH website.

Mugs -  We need more of your "ugly mugs". Drop off a bag/box of your ugly mugs in the box outside the Malachi's Storehouse door across from the kitchen.  Thanks and love,  Kathy   (contact Kathy via email here)

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (ages 2 1/2 - 11) resumes Sunday, Aug. 10

It's that time of year. We've spruced up the atria and bought new supplies...now we just need some children. We will begin CGS this coming Sunday. August 10 at 9:00. If you have any questions about which atrium your child is in, the catechists and I will be on hand to assist you.

During the Eucharist: We will not be having a regular Sunday choir this year. We hope to have choir for special occasions during the church year. We are planning to restart children's chapel, but that will not begin until after Labor Day. For the first few weeks, we will take young children (Level 1) to the nursery, and children in Levels 2 and 3 need to picked up before the 10:30 Eucharist begins.

More info to come later.  Hope to see everyone on Sunday morning.

Yours, Victoria
