Making Room in Lent

It was great to be with so many of you at the Mardi Gras party at our home last week! And I am looking forward to the last bit of feasting with you at the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper next week.

Shrove Tuesday, of course, precedes Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent, our season for prayer and self-examination. I hope that many of you will join me in setting aside holy time each day during Lent to be with Jesus, through formal liturgies of morning, noonday or evening prayer, in quiet contemplation, or in some combination or other practice that makes sense for you. You might even consider visiting the chapel on a weekly basis, joining us there on Sundays in Lent for Celtic Evening Prayer.

In all these ways, I pray this Lent that we will all make room for Jesus, that he may show us how we might make room for others in our hearts and in our Parish.

Blessings,

D+

The Ash Wednesday imposition of ashes and Eucharist will be in the nave on Wednesday, March 5, at noon and 7:30 p.m. A soup supper precedes the evening service.

Easter Sunrise Vigil at the Parish

We have so enjoyed our Easter Vigil at the Chattahoochee River these past three years! This year we are opening up that experience to our neighbors right here in Dunwoody. Our celebration begins out front as we break the pre-dawn darkness with the lighting of a huge paschal fire. We will then process into the nave bearing the light of Christ from that first fire. After hearing of God's saving deeds through history, we will ring in Easter at sunrise with a rousing Eucharist! Know someone who is ready for baptism? This is the time!

Please mark your calendars for the Easter Sunrise Vigil at 6:30 am, here at the Parish, and join us thereafter for breakfast and the Easter Egg Hunt before the 10:30 am service.

Welcome Fr. Joseph Herring to St. Patrick's! Fr. Herring will be our celebrant for today's services. Fr. Herring is a native of New Jersey, a graduate of Dartmouth College and General Seminary, and a priest with over 51 years of ordained experience. After serving six dioceses as a trained interim priest, he and his wife moved to Alpharetta in 2005. Since then, he has been active as a teacher, preacher, and pastor in ten congregations. We are happy to have you, Fr. Herring!

Learn a New Presentation Hymn: We are gearing up for some great worship services during the Lenten season. During this time, we will be singing a new presentation hymn with which many of you will be familiar. The song is entitled, "Create For Me a Clean Heart O God". Since I cannot obtain the rights to publish the music in the bulletin, I am providing a link to the song so that you can listen to the song and be familiar with the melody. I will be teaching the song this coming Sunday, March 2, at 10:20 a.m. to prepare us for lent. Come on out a little early and sing with us! I do trust that your heart will be moved and you will join in this prayer with me. ~Chad

Ministry Update

Hunger Walk for Malachi's March 9:

Parish family,

It's Hunger Walk time! Malachi's Storehouse's largest fundraiser is well underway. Our goal this year?  $15,000. Due to parish and dioscesan budget cuts, your Hunger Walk donation is even more important to us.

In 2013, MSH fed 31,600 people! Early returns are that we will continue to be an important resource to so many. I love that as a parish we continue to be available to the folks that Jesus wanted us to be available to. Also, all the research around happiness indicates there is a strong correlation between being kind and being happy! It's almost like Jesus knew what we would need ;)

Here's one way to be kind. Follow the links and let me know if you have trouble.  Click here to donate or register for the Hunger Walk.

As always, we are so very grateful for your continuous and generous and KIND support.

Love,  Kathy (kmalcomhall@yahoo.com
