The Shamrock - February 5, 2014

First Solemn Communion

This Sunday, Feb. 9, the children in the Level 2 atrium of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd will participate in a special celebration of the Eucharist called First Solemn Communion. They have prepared for this for several weeks, studying Scripture and themes of Reconciliation and Eucharist. The study culminates in a final retreat where the children receive Reconciliation with Fr. Dick.  The children also make stoles to wear for the Eucharist celebration which signify the solemnity of this special day.  This time of study and retreat prepares them for a special celebration of Eucharist in which the children participate more fully in the liturgy and life of our church. Join us in prayer and support as Daniel Wyatt Bailez, Michael John Dolan, Keely Rayne Sheridan, Ryan Michael Sheridan, Addison Isabel Stephens, and Charlize Davis Warren take this step on their faith journey.

St. Patrick's News

Join us for Wonderful Wednesday - great friends and great teachings.

Liturgy Note: We will be continuing our practice of silence before the services. From 7:45 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. and again from 10:15 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. we ask for silence in the chapel and the nave. Services will start promptly at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.  During the offertory, Clergy will briefly greet newcomers and, on occasion, highlight offerings of the parish. Every attempt will be made to include all necessary information about church happenings in the service bulletin.

If you have announcements you would like placed in the bulletin and/or Shamrock, please email them to Amanda Vaughn by noon on Tuesdays.

Wonderful Wednesday Night Dinner and Program: Our dinner and program is back. The cost for children 12-years and younger is $5.00, cost of an adult meal is $7.00. Please be sure to be a part of this upcoming program and dinner. Email your reservations to Amanda Vaughn by the Monday before - please note if you need childcare.

Cloverleaf: Readers wanted - Could you kindly take your nose out of that book long enough to think for a minute about the role reading has played in your life.  When did a distracting book get you through a crisis? Motivate you to plan a trip?  When did one change your direction?  Make you laugh?  Cry?  We are a parish of readers and the Cloverleaf for spring is going to be on the subject of books and their influence on us.  Consider for a minute your tribute to books and authors.  Questionnaires are in the Cloverleaf box on the office door to help you get started.  Take one home and ponder your answers.  The deadline is Sunday, Feb. 23.  OK, you can go back to your book.  You were on page 264.

Stewardship Update:  We have received 106 adult pledge cards for a total of $437,392. It is never too late to pledge! Pledge cards for the 2014 Operating Budget are available in the office and you can find a printable pledge card here.

Pledge cards should be returned to Nicole Cone, Parish administrator. "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." 2 Cor. 9:7

2013 Statements: Statements went in the mail this week. If you have any questions, please contact Nicole Cone.
