Adult Christian Formation Offerings Begin Sunday, September 15
Join us Sunday mornings at 9:15 a.m. for one of our Christian Formation classes:
DREAMS: A WAY TO LISTEN TO GOD
Library
Facilitators: Kendra Yates, Brenda Marquis
The Dream Group provides a safe and sacred space to share dreams and help participants find spiritual fulfillment in their dreams and to discern how God might be speaking to them. All are welcome.
THE GOSPEL OF THOMAS
Gathering Room
Facilitators: Al Cedarholm, Harry Delcher
The Gospel of Thomas offers us an opportunity to study the wisdom tradition of early Christians, most specifically, in this case, the writings studied by early desert fathers who gathered in the monasteries founded by St. Pachomius. The teachings of Jesus in the Bible come from narrative texts. These "new" teachings are short, pithy sayings that require a different context. That context is experience rather than knowledge. We hope you'll join us in the Contemplative Class this fall as we "dig in" to The Gospel of Thomas. We're using the translation by Lynn Bauman, "The Gospel of Thomas: Wisdom of the Twin." Everyone is invited.
INTRODUCTION TO THE OLD TESTAMENT
Boardroom, 8a/8b
Facilitators: Deacon Ed Fuller, Charles Boyanton
The class will focus on understanding the message of the Old Testament as a history of God's covenant relationship with God's chosen people. In addition, the class will consider how the "Old" Testament came into being, how it got its present form, and the setting in which it took and how it relates to us as Christians. It is anticipated that this class will serve to introduce a more detailed study of the Old Testament books in the Spring.
THE ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION SERIES
Parlor
Facilitators: Taylor Harper, Cece Balboni, Keith Harper
Join us in an atmosphere where everyone is both teacher and student, a place where ideas and experiences are shared freely. Each week a facilitator from among the class will lead a theological reflection of a selected topic of interest, inviting conversation from biblical, cultural/political, societal, and personal perspectives (or all of the above). All are welcome.

Ministry News
Prayer Requests: If you'd like to have a name added to the St. Patrick's prayer list, please email the information to prayerrequests@stpat.net.
Malachi Reads is a program where the kids of Malachi Storehouse visitors can read and be read to by Volunteers from St. Patrick's. When the kids leave they get to choose a couple of books to take home with them. We currently need volunteers to come on Wednesdays from 2:30 - 5:00 p.m. to read. Please email Diane Rankin or call her at 404-277-5388 if this feels like a ministry for you.
Garden of Eatin' Update: Although it still feels like summer outside, it is time to get lettuce in the ground in the garden. We are asking for donations of lettuce plants - common varieties, like romaine and green leaf, to get our garden growing for winter. You may drop donations off at the garden anytime before Sept. 23 by leaving the plants under the roof overhang in back of the church. Why is this important? Often times, the produce from the garden, along with donations from our food partners, are the only fresh vegetables and fruits our Malachi clients have access to. And they certainly appreciate what they get! So, when you are shopping for your fall mums at Home Depot or Pike's, grab some lettuce plants for Malachi's Garden of Eatin'. Garden of Eatin' Volunteers Needed: Looking for something to do in your free time on Wednesday afternoons? We could use some help in the garden from 2 to 4pm for various tasks like harvesting, planting, and watering. It's easy labor and you don't need a green thumb plus It's fun to be outside and interact with the clients! For more information or questions, contact James Tola or Wendy Lauber.
Cloverleaf:"The memory of some past moments is more persuasive than the experience of present ones."
- Henry David Thoreau
I've heard a person dies three times: when their body dies, when their soul leaves and when nobody any longer remembers them. But we don't forget, do we? As a faithful rememberer, get that person down in writing. Let us all get to know them this year. And we'll all promise to keep them alive by our remembering. We have no say over the first two deaths, but we do over the third and final one. Deadline for the 2013 Cloverleaf All Saints issue is Sunday, October 6. Email submissions to Barbara Allen.
Stephen Ministry: If you are feeling troubled about a problem in your life, please know that Stephen Ministers are always available. They will be there to listen and to walk with you during the times when you most need them. God wants you to be at peace, and the Stephen Ministers are trained to help you find that peace. Call Fr. Dick at 770-455-6523 to be put in touch with a Stephen Minister. Your request and conversations will be kept totally confidential.
