Vestry Mini-Retreat: We are so grateful for your covering of prayer during our Vestry Mini-Retreat. Our time together was good and holy, and resulted in a Statement of Purpose, set forth below, that will guide the Vestry as we do the work of leadership in the parish.
The Vestry of St. Patrick's cultivates a Eucharistic community that encourages authentic expressions of gifts, including experiences, in an atmosphere of safety that honors different paths, with the goal of renewing our unity with God and others in Christ, within and outside our doors.
You will be hearing more about this Vestry Statement of Purpose as we as a parish discern together a purpose for St. Patrick's. May God continue to guide us in all we are and do!
Office Closure: The church office will be closed Monday, September 2 for Labor Day.
God Goes to the Movies: Our Film Festival concludes this Sunday. The movie starts promptly at 9:15 a.m., so please be sure to arrive in the Gathering Room/Room 1 a few minutes before.
September 1 - "Something the Lord Made" hosted by Victoria Schwartz. "Something the Lord Made" tells the true story of the 34-year partnership of Alfred Blalock and Vivien Thomas. In 1930, Alfred Blalock, a white heart surgeon, hires Thomas, a black mechanic, as an assistant in his Vanderbilt University lab, expecting him to perform janitorial work. Thomas' remarkable manual dexterity and intellect confound Blalock's expectations, and Thomas soon becomes Blalock's indispensable research partner. The team becomes pioneers in heart surgery, yet outside the lab, they are separated by the prevailing racism of the time. This partnership broke the rules and made medical breakthroughs that saved lives.
Foyers Groups: We are enjoying a lot of good food, conversation, and fellowship as we get to know each other up close and personal in each others' homes or on an occasional outing together. Currently we have two groups, The Delightfuls and The Galloping Gourmets. These groups will be meeting once a month through the fall, and can receive new members at any time. New groups will be forming during this time also. Call Diane Rankin at 404-277-5388 or email Diane if you would like to join a current group or sign up for a new group to start in the winter.
Cloverleaf: At Judy Hoffmann's funeral, we were challenged to tell each other "Judy Stories," to honor her life among us. It's time to tell "Wayne Stories," "Holly Stories," "JoAnn Stories" too. The deadline for this year's Cloverleaf All Saints' issue is Sunday, October 6. We hear a lot about living in the present, but our present is made up of the past. So let your brain cells cast back and pick a story of anyone you consider to be saint in your life. We'll be so glad to hear it! Send entries to Barbara Allen.
Fall Arts Retreat: The fall retreat will be held at the Fort Mountain Retreat Center on October 4-6, 2013.
The cost is $150.00 ($100.00 Deposit due by September 21) which includes two nights, 2 suppers, 2 breakfasts, (lunches on our own) and a wonderful place to practice your art (AND ANYTHING CAN BE AN ART), whatever it may be. Email Diane Rankin for details or call her at 404-277-5388. More information can be found here.
Prayer Requests: If you'd like to have a name added to the St. Patrick's prayer list, please email the information to prayerrequests@stpat.net.
New Name Tags: The new name tags are finished and clipped on the board in alphabetical order. Please wear them on Sundays! If yours is missing, please email Amanda Vaughn.
Want to join St. Patrick's? Baptism is all that is required! Please complete a Membership Form and email Amanda Vaughn or call her at 770-455-6523.

Ministry News
Malachi Reads is a program where the kids of Malachi Storehouse visitors can read and be read to by Volunteers from St. Patrick's. When the kids leave they get to choose a couple of books to take home with them. We currently need volunteers to come on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 5:00 to read. Please email Diane Rankin or call her at 404-277-5388 or if this feels like a ministry for you.
The Garden has grown! Have you seen it recently? The Garden of Eatin' is abundant from the summer's rain. We have harvested many beans, peppers, and tomatoes and are watching eggplant and watermelon grow!
Our Garden friend, Pattie Baker, has moved on to new projects and we would like to thank her for her amazing energy and vision which launched the Garden of Eatin'! As we look forward to fall and cooler temperatures, we would like to invite curious folks to come on over to the Garden, located on the back lawn of St. Patrick's, on Wednesday afternoons at 2pm. We will be planning and planting soon for fall. No garden experience is necessary! The garden continues to provide fresh produce to our Malachi clients while building relationships with them with added benefits of fun, fresh air and education for all.
Stephen Ministry: Are you looking for a way to share God's love and peace with others? Has anyone ever told you that you are "a good listener"? Maybe you are being called to be a Stephen Minister. We are seeking to form a new class of Stephen Ministers to begin training in late September. Classes will be held on Monday or Wednesday evenings thru early March with commissioning of new Stephen Ministers in April or May.
Stephen Ministry training will equip you with skills to minister to those who are in need of care due to grief, illness, divorce, job loss, or other personal crisis. You will practice being a supportive listener and learn how to be a caring presence walking with someone who may be feeling alone and lost. For more information on training for this ministry at St Patrick's contact Anne Duncan 770 454-9053
