A WALK IN THE WOODS TOUR

By popular demand, on September 11, the U.S. Green Building Council - Redwood Chapter will host the third annual day-long forestry tour.

Join other building professionals from our region to see sustainable forestry in action in the forests of the Mendocino Redwood Company and learn why these forests are certified to the high environmental and social standards of the Forest Stewardship Council

Forest Stewardship in Action
Over the course of the day, we will visit an old-growth redwood forest, a tree nursery, an active logging site and a stream restoration project. Lunch will be provided. Then we will convene for discussion, wine and snacks at the company offices and sawmill.

You can expect to come away from this tour inspired and informed about restorative forestry and the locally-available products that come from it.

  • 9:30am - Navarro -  Old Growth and Nursery

"I can't believe I am excited about using redwood again.  Several years ago I thought this was not possible, thinking it a lumber species on its way to extinction. Now, I am buying kiln dried redwood at Home Depot and using it for many solutions in my work. This turnaround was solely the result of my experience at the USGBC-REC forest tour of Mendocino Redwood Company's FSC-certified forest.  They are restoring their forest lands while sustainably harvesting redwood and show tour attendees how."
