Press Release for Immediate Release
Conclusion of lecture series on "The Caliphate: The Islamic State..." at AGTS
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. --- Assemblies of God Theological Seminary will present Dr. Sobhi Malek and the closing of his three-part lecture series on "The Caliphate: The Islamic State --- Its Origin and the Implications of its Current Ambitions."

The presentation will be Wednesday, April 6 at 11 a.m., in the Seymour Chapel at AGTS. There will be a time for questions and dialogue following the lecture.

At the end of his second session on March 8, Dr. Malek said, "In this lecture, we looked at the origins of the caliphate and how it is an ideal and a goal for fundamentalist Muslims. In the next lecture, we will look at violence in Islam.

"Also, we will explore the question, 'Is the caliphate achievable?' From there, we will ask, 'What can the Church do?' The answer is, as the Church of Jesus Christ prays with faith, she should expect God to answer and bring many Muslims to Christ. Therefore, we need to be ready and prepared to receive and disciple the great numbers of Muslims who will enter the Kingdom of Christ," said Malek.

The lecture will be live streamed at agts.edu.

The J. Philip Hogan Chair

The J. Philip Hogan Chair at AGTS is an endowed professorship that honors the missionary leadership of one of our most distinguished former executive directors of the Assemblies of God World Missions. As a partnership between AGTS and AGWM, it calls on today's missionaries and scholars to continue in the heritage of thoughtful, incisive and Spirit-led missiology that Hogan's ministry left us.

A leading missiologist is invited annually to fill the chair in order to explore new dimensions in missiology through teaching, research and writing. Special thanks are due to AGWM, the Hyllberg Memorial Fund, Philip and Virginia Hogan and others who have contributed to the endowment of the Chair.
