Springfield, Mo.--- September 23, 2015 --- The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary at Evangel University will host the seminar "Islam in America" with AGTS President Mark Hausfeld on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the William J. Seymour chapel at AGTS (1435 N. Glenstone Ave., Springfield, Mo.)
Dr. Mark Hausfeld, an alum of Evangel ('80) and AGTS ('83), has 30 years of pastoral and missionary experience in Chicago, Pakistan and Central Asia. He spent seven years in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as a missionary with Assemblies of God World Missions (AGWM) where they started Teen Challenge Pakistan and assisted two church plants. He has served as AGWM area director for Central Eurasia and as international director of Global Initiative: Reaching Muslim Peoples, a ministry designed to collaborate with Assemblies of God world and domestic missions. Global Initiative equips the church to reach Muslim peoples everywhere and to mobilize long term church planting teams among them.
"Muslims from the ends of the earth are in our cities. Some have been here for generations. Others are here looking for a fresh start or a university education," said Hausfeld. "In any case, their presence on our doorsteps could be the Church's greatest opportunity. There will never be enough vocational missionaries to reach 1.5 billion Muslims around the world. The local church is the answer. It is time for Christians to overcome fear, anger or indifference toward Muslims and engage these lost brothers and sisters in our communities."
Hausfeld designed the seminar to connect minsters, missionaries, chaplains, Christian business owners and laity alike with the tools, knowledge and Spirit empowerment they need to reach Muslims in their communities.
In addition to his role as AGTS president, Hausfeld serves as the founding director of AGTS' Center for Islamic Studies. In 2007, he became the seminary's second J. Philip Hogan Chair of World Missions. His three Hogan lectures and subsequent monograph are entitled "Islam in America: Reaching Diaspora Muslims through the Local Church." He currently serves as professor or Urban and Islamic Studies at AGTS. He is also the president of Global Oasis: Engaging Muslim Peoples, a ministry organization that trains and mobilizes people to reach Muslims around the world.
