Academic News  

 

Summer Practicums 

  • Students must apply and register for class credit BEFORE doing practicums; credit will not be given for those requesting credit after completing practicums.
    • Counseling: If you need a counseling
      practicum in summer 2014, 
      please make an appointment to meet with Dr. Angela Reid in early January. 
    • Interculteral Ministry: Email Dr. Paul Lewis for an appointment during January 6-17
    • All other practicums: Contact Dr. Randy Walls or Nikki Reeves during January 21-31

 

Improve Your Writing!   

  • Graduate work can be frustrating if your academic writing competency is not at the level it should be. We recommend the following:
    • Enroll in RES 512 Academic Writing.
    • Receive a total of 13 hours of classroom instruction in a weekend module and up to 20 hours of one-to-one coaching.
    • This one-credit course will be offered in the spring semester
      January 31 - February 1 at
      half the regular tuition rate. Be sure to sign up early for spring!   

Student Appointment with Faculty 

  • Email faculty members to arrange an appointment. Use the faculty member's last name and first initial as in this example (cottonr@evangel.edu). Faculty encourage students to meet them for pre-registration, class matters, and ministry or personal concerns. However, please email them to set up appointments.   

Holiday's and Events 

  • January 1: New Year's Holiday (building and offices closed) 
  • January 6: New Student Orientation and Registration
  • January 20: Martin Luther King Holiday (no classes) 

Inclement Weather 

 

In the rare event that classes are cancelled due to severe winter weather, you can:

  • Call 417-268-1000, extension S-N-O-W (7669) and then listen for the prompt and push "1" for AGTS.
  • Listen to major television and radio stations in Springfield to learn if the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary has cancelled classes. Even though Evangel might close, it does not mean the Seminary is closed.

Summer/Fall Registration  

  • Week of March 3-7: registration must be entered by students on the Student Portal.
  • The Registrar's Office will no longer be accepting and processing paper forms.
  • If you have any questions, please contact the Registrar.
  • If you have any questions about the Student Portal, please contact the Help Desk 

Grades 

  • Grades may be viewed through the Student Portal beginning January 2.   

Student Records 

  • Check the Student Handbook for guidelines concerning privacy of student records.

Business Office News   


Deferred Payment Dates
  

  • Deferred payments for the spring semester are due on or before January 6, February 15, and March 15.
  • Payments must be received in the Business Office on or before these dates in order to to avoid a $25 per month late payment fee.

Spring 2014 Scholarships, Discounts and Grants  

  • Institutional aid and endowment awards for the Spring 2014 term should post to student accounts by February 1.
  • If you are a recipient, please review your February account statement carefully to make sure that the award and the accurate amount has been posted. 
  • Please report any suspected discrepancies to the Business Office as soon as possible. 

Scholarship Applications for Fall 2014 

  • Scholarship applications for the fall semester will be available in the Business Office by January 31.

  • Monday- Friday: 9:00 a.m.- 9:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m.- 6 p.m.
  • Sunday: Closed
    • Any exceptions to this schedule over the course of the semester will be posted in advance.
Library Orientation library
  • A Library Research Orientation session is scheduled for new students on Monday, January 6, at 1:30 p.m. in Room 114.
  • Any returning students who are interested are also invited to attend.

  • Baker Academic has released the second volume of Craig Keener's (1985/1987 alum) four-volume commentary, Acts: An Exegetical Commentary: 3:1-14:28In this volume, Keener continues his detailed exegesis of Acts, utilizing an unparalleled range of ancient sources and offering a wealth of fresh insights.
  • Keener (Ph.D., Duke University) is professor of New Testament at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. He is the author of many books, including the bestseller The IVP Bible Background Commentary: New Testament, Miracles: The Credibility of the New Testament Accounts, The Historical Jesus of the Gospels, Gift and Giver, and commentaries on Matthew, John, Romans,1-2 Corinthians and Revelation.
  • Mark Wootton's (2003 alum) book, The Complete Pentecostal: More Than Just Tongues, is being published chapter by chapter in upcoming issues of Spiritual Resources, which is the pastoral journal for Eastern Europe published by Life Publishers. It will be translated into Albanian, Croatian, Czech, French, German, Hungarian, Polish, and Romanian.

January 5-11: Will deliver six sessions on "Diaspora Missiology: Missions Is Not Where But Whom" to the AGWM "Beyond" conference in Nairobi, Kenya. The purpose is to equip AGWM missionaries to better minister to unreached peoples.

Will lead a Muslim Awareness Seminar at the Addis Ababa, Bible College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This AG school wants to become a training center for African nationals to reach Muslim people.
