2013 Alumni Phonathon Update

 

Thank you AGTS Alumni for your response to phone calls from students, faculty, and staff during the recent Alumni Phonathon. Together alumni contributed or pledged over $20,000 for student scholarships!  Your generosity speaks loudly to students and the entire Seminary community-thank you so much!  For anyone who still wants to help, there's still time make a difference in the life of a student by sending a gift by December 31. EU School of Theology and Church Ministries Chapels

 

STCM undergrad "practicum" chapels (student-led and STCM Faculty-coached) will now be streamed live from the Seminary's Seymour Chapel on Mondays at 10:00 am (Central). These services will be archived and available on the EU public website.

The 43rd Annual Meeting of the Society for Pentecostal Studies will be held at Evangel University, March 6-8, 2014. All Alumni are welcome to attend! In September, Dr. Klaus preached at West County A/G in Chesterfield, MO. It was the special service for John and Juliana Tilden ('12) starting their missionary residency there. Dr. Klaus is pictured with the Tildens, Mark Hausfeld ('83) and Jared Stoner ('01). 

 

Faculty News

 

Jim Hernando ('78) is co-leading a missionary trip to Nicaragua October 19-26. He will teach basic principles of biblical interpretation at Martin Luther University and in a pastors' seminar in Managua. His wife, Moira, will lead their church team to do benevolence ministry, working with the AG Engage ministry.

 

Charlie Self attended the following events:

October 7-9: Keynote speaker for Acton at Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA

October 21-23: Speaking and consulting at Trinity Bible College for the Kern Family Foundation in Ellendale, ND

October 24-26: Presenting Kern Grant leadership training at The Oaks AG in Dallas, TX

October 28-29: Participating in the Missio Alliance Steering Committee in Alexandria, VA 

 

Oleson Ava Oleson ('11) spoke on the topic The Art of Leadership: Insuring Long-term Sustained Impact during a workshop in September. The workshop focused on five leadership competencies: 1) connectivity, 2) engaging, 3) positive framing, 4) self-clarity, and 5) finding one's voice.

 

Alumni News

  

 

Bill Graybill ('78) completed 35 years as senior pastor at Albany Life Center in Albany, OR in October.  He, and his wife, Dorothy are now ministering full-time in their "Peace Mentors" ministry that is engaged in mentoring pastors and Christian leaders around the world in redemptive conflict resolution.  Bill also serves as an adjunct professor at Global University.

 

Paul Arthur Hansen ('88) of Kelso passed away Sept. 16, 2013, at home. Paul served as an AG minister for more than 25 years, licensed and ordained in California, and pastored churches in California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Washington. For the last seven years he was the family pastor at Columbia Heights AG. His heart's desire was to make a difference in the lives of others. He loved spending time with his family and was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the San Francisco Giants and 49ers. He also enjoyed golfing and the beauty of nature. Paul loved life and was a kid at heart.

 

John (Jack) K Cairns Jr. ('88) graduated from King's University in June 2013 with a D.Min. in Messianic Jewish Leadership.  He serves as senior pastor, Capital AG in Hamilton, NJ.

 

Linda Haffner ('90) serves as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the deaf and hard of hearing in the state of Vermont. She and her husband are in the process of pioneering a church in the South Royalton/Sharon, VT area.

 

Jill Holm ('95) was promoted to major in the Civil Air Patrol.

 

Rob Swartz ('98) serves as social services director at Compact Family Services Agency. He oversees the ministries of Hillcrest Children's Home, Highlands Maternity Home and the Independent Living Program. His wife, Joyce, who worked at AGTS for 7 years, serves as the adoption/compliant/records coordinator at Compact.

 

Dr. Holly Carlson ('06) married Thomas Zhoa Saturday, September 28th in Asheville, NC.

 

 

 

 

Kelly Preston ('13) and her husband, Greg, planted Eastside Community Church (AG) in Blacklick, Ohio (eastern suburb of Columbus). Visit their website at http://www.eccag.org/.

Topic: "Why Calvinism is Not a Transcript of the Gospel?"

  

Dr. Olson is the Foy Valentine Professor of Christian Theology and Ethics at Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University and the author of The Story of Christian Theology: Twenty Centuries of Tradition and Reform, which received a Gold Medallion from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association in 1999. Olson and Stanley Grenz authored the book entitled, Who Needs Theology?
