PASTOR JANICE'S REFLECTION |
Do you have a list of little jobs you really dislike and so you have a tendency to put off doing them even though you KNOW that when they are done, you will feel SO much better? I seem to have a rather long laundry list of items like that! It's not that they are DIFFICULT to do or a lot of TROUBLE to do and they don't even take that much TIME to do. I just find myself putting them off day after day.
For instance, I'll often do the laundry, fold it, and bring it upstairs. Unfortunately, it will then often sit there in the laundry basket for several days (yes, I even pick socks and other items out of the basket each day!). Of course, I eventually will get around to putting it away, but that usually only happens once I need the laundry basket again. Very sad. The same is true about emptying the dishwasher. I hate that job.
Today I successfully tackled two of those bothersome little tasks that I've been avoiding for a few weeks - moving all of my heavy winter sweaters, flannel and fleece shirts, and other assorted clothing that is screaming "WINTER!" out of my closet and moving the spring and summer items IN. The OTHER thing I accomplished today is something I especially dislike - replacing the windows in the parsonage breezeway with screens. It took ten minutes or less, but I've been seriously dreading that job for weeks. But I feel SO GOOD now that it's done because I can now enjoy sitting in the breezeway, and I intend to do that in a few minutes whether I want to or not!
So yes ... when it comes to certain things, I am a big procrastinator. I also confess that when it comes to certain things I really WANT to do or WANT to accomplish, I don't waste any time at all - I can get almost obsessive about it.
So my prayer for today is that the Lord will help me find a little balance. I think ALL of us could use a little balance, and we would all do well to ask God to give us a little nudge when we need it and to help slow us down when we're moving too fast!
