Sad news from the Valley Art Center. This year we have lost a few treasured friends with the passing of Dr. Tom Mettee, Peg Bowen and Hope Emerling. The VAC community will certainly miss their warm smiles and positive contributions. Please keep their family and friends in your prayers. |
41st Juried Art Exhibit & The Peg Bowen Retrospective Opens at VAC
The Valley Art Center is so proud to announce our 41st Annual Juried Art Exhibit. Artists living within a 250-mile radius of Chagrin Falls were again invited to submit artwork for consideration to this most prestigious annual exhibition. This year approximately 300 pieces were juried to 93 pieces representing not only traditional mediums such as oil, watercolor, found objects, and photography but also graphite pencil, clay monoprints, wood cuts, and hand cut paper--just to name a few!
Jurors this year were Brandon Holschuh-jeweler, author, instructor, regional and national award winner; Ruta Butkus Marino--textile/fiber artist and curator; and, A.D. Peters-painter, mixed media artist, instructor and regional and national award winner. Seven artists were selected by jurors to receive cash awards-Best of Show, 1st/2nd/3rd Place and the community sponsored awards; Hardy Watercolor Award, Elsie & Byron Lutman Award and Phyllis Lloyd Memorial Award.
The Awards Presentation and Reception take place on Friday, November 2, from 6-8pm (Awards at 7pm). Our openings are free and open to the public so join us for a wonderful evening and celebrate with the winners and artists. This show runs through December 13, Gallery hours are: Mon-Fri 10-4 and Sat 10-2.
Also opening on November 2, VAC will present The Peg Bowen Retrospective: Images from a Life Well Lived 1928-2012, to honor the passing of a dear VAC friend and sponsor, Margaret (Peg) Bowen. This exhibit will be open through January 16, 2013. Her tremendous support over the years helped VAC to further our mission and her dedication to the Art of Renovation was acknowledged with the naming of our renovated space, The Margaret (Peg) Bowen Gallery.
VAC thanks our sponsors Deb Perry, Hamlet Village and Burntwood Tavern and the citizens of Cuyahoga County for their support through Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.
