Pick the Perfect Chew Toy Chew toys are extremely important to dogs. Chewing is a natural reflex for dogs, as they exeperience much of the world through their mouths. Not all chew toys are created equal, however. According to the American Veterinary Dental College, chew toys are at their most beneficial if played with often and over a long period of time. To better attract your pup to a chew toy and not your shoes, smear peanut butter over the toy to increase palatability. Rawhides make for good chew toys. Kong products are also good options, as they protect dogs teeth. Avoid anything too hard, like a real bone. Remember, if you wouldn't want to bite down on an object, your dog won't either. Objects that are likely to chip your teeth are likely to damage a dog's as well. |
