October 2012

Greetings!

My recent travels brought me to Germany for 2012 IBA Munich, the world's leading trade fair for bakers and confectioners.  I met many interesting new people and enjoyed the massive display of exhibitors.  Special thanks to the terrific demonstrators at our booth, Suuz and Monica.  Attendance at IBA was higher than the previous IBA show in 2009 - over 70,000 people!  The baking industry is alive and well and cake decorating is growing by leaps and bounds.

At Satin Fine Foods, we are gearing up to launch our retail packages to the consumer market.  We know that many of our customers have been anxious and we promise it will be worth the wait.

Best regards,

Kevin

FRESH NEW LOOK

We are excited to announce the recent redesign of our product labels. To coincide with our coming retail pack, our commercial labels got a makeover! They feature easy to follow photo steps, a stronger representation of fondant color and additional product information.  These fresh new labels make it easier to identify color when warehoused, and they look friendlier on resale shelves.  As always, visit our website at www.satinice.com for more tips, tricks and inspiration.

ICING SMILES

Chase Community Giving

Icing Smiles was awarded a $20,000 grant from Chase Bank... thanks to all who voted! Congratulations, Icing Smiles!

We look forward to seeing this remarkable charity continue to bring happiness to families going through a hard time.

Icing Smiles Icing Smiles is a nonprofit organization that provides custom celebration cakes and other treats to families impacted by the critical illness of a child. They understand that the simple things, like a birthday cake, are luxuries to a family battling illness. Their goal is to create a custom cake for the ill child, or their sibling, that provides a temporary escape from worry and creates a positive memory during a difficult time.

How To Side Bow
Ron Ben-Israel offers easy ideas for a fresh look
  1. Roll Satin Ice fondant and cut into strips.
  2. Moisten the top and bottom edges with water, place a wire or a skewer, fold the ends and fasten while clinching into a loop.
  3. Let loops dry sideways.
  4. Prepare two tails and a small strip for the knot. Those will be applied to the cake while still flexible.
  5. Apply a band of Satin Ice fondant around the cake.
  6. Attach bows, tails and the knot by inserting wires and moistening the back of the decorations to secure.
  7. Mix powdered shimmer colors with clear alcohol and paint all decorations for a satiny finish.
  8. Gorgeous!

Until next month,

Your friends at Satin Fine Foods
