Gilmer Road and Midlothian Road Public Meeting

 

The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is having a public meeting regarding the Gilmer Road and Midlothian Road Intersection Improvements Study through the Village of Hawthorn Woods and unincorporated Lake County. The purpose of the meeting is to present the proposed alternatives and solicit public comment. Maps, exhibits and educational materials will be available for viewing and staff from the LCDOT and project consultants will be available to answer questions.

 
DATE/TIME: April 17, 5 -7 p.m.
LOCATION: Village of Hawthorn Woods, Community Room

The format of the meeting will be an open house. Public comment will be accepted at the meeting, or by mail through May 1. You may also submit comments through the project website www.improvegilmermidlothian.com.  

Other Transportation Updates 

 

Quentin Rd and Old McHenry Rd Resurfacing
This project is an asphalt surface removal and replacement initiative and areas with a 2' asphalt paved shoulder will be widened to provide a bike-friendly 4' asphalt shoulder.


This project began in the fall of 2012 and work is scheduled to begin again in April. When work begins, expect daily lane closures using flaggers and one lane traffic control. Watch for workers and equipment. Estimated completion is July 2013.

Quentin Rd, Reconstruction and Widening
The existing Quentin Rd pavement will be removed and rebuilt/widened to provide two lanes in each direction. New traffic signals will be installed at US12 at Long Grove Rd and at White Pine Rd, with additional turn lanes added. Other features of the project include a bikepath, and landscaped medians.


Construction began in late February and should be complete by the end of the year. The same number of lanes as exist now will be available during construction. There may be some days where temporary daytime lane closures may be necessary. US12 traffic is not anticipated to be impacted in a major way, as road construction will only take place on Quentin Rd.

Cuba Road to Close for Culvert Installation, Deer Park
The Lake County Division of Transportation, will be closing Cuba Road, west of the E.J.&E. Railroad Tracks, the morning of Monday, April 22 at 7 a.m. and is scheduled to reopen to traffic in the early evening of Wednesday, May 1. The closure is necessary for the removal and installation of the culvert.


The signed detour route for this closure will be Ela Road, to U.S. Route 12, Rand Road, to IL Rte 22, Half Day Road, to IL Rte 59.

Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption Outreach Sessions

 

Applications for the 2013 Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption have been mailed, and it requires an annual renewal. To assist with the application, the Chief County Assessment Office and the Lake County Township Assessors Association will hold Senior Freeze outreach sessions in April. 


Residents will receive assistance in completing their 2013 Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Applications for taxes payable in 2014; as well as, service taxpayer needs on other homestead exemptions offered. Staff members will be working one on one with residents to complete any necessary exemption forms.
