Weather Update

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Heavy Snow from 3 a.m. Tuesday through midnight Tuesday night. While there is still some uncertainty about the exact time and location of heaviest snowfall, there is enough confidence to suggest that most of the Chicagoland area north of Interstate 80 will receive six or more inches of snow. Light snow may begin over Lake County later today or tonight, with moderate snow possible during the morning Tuesday. The most intense snowfall, with accumulation rates of an inch or more per hour, is expected Tuesday between noon and 6 p.m. Snow is forecast to continue into the night Tuesday, and occasional snow is also possible Wednesday morning. Winds from the northeast of up to 20mph with stronger gusts are expected during the day Tuesday, which may cause challenges with blowing and drifting of snow, particularly on east-west roadways.

Snow accumulation of 6 to 9 inches is expected, but locally higher amounts are possible.
