Intersection Improvement at Rte. 12 & Quentin Rd. in Kildeer/Deer Park

I've received some inquiries about the intersection improvement at Rte.12 & Quentin Rd. The contractor is ready to install temporary traffic signals and begin work on the intersection improvement at Quentin Road and US Route 12 as soon as the weather improves. The utility companies continue to work on relocating their facilities in advance of road construction starting.

This will be a one year project with road construction complete and all lanes open to traffic by late fall of this year. Once construction gets started in the upcoming weeks, motorists can expect to see the same number of traffic lanes kept open to traffic in all directions, with the exception of temporary lane closures to allow for specific construction activities during the hours of 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (off peak).

Rising Gas Prices Make Taking Transit a Bargain

The American Public Transportation Association recently analyzed the costs of commuting by car. The price of regular unleaded gas in the Chicago area is up 50 from a month ago to $4.08 in the city to $3.93 across the metro area. Transit options such as Pace, Metra, and CTA save commuters money and provide a relaxed and reliable way to commute. They found that those who use transit in the Chicago area saved an average of $942 monthly with an annual savings of $11,298. Chicago offers the fourth-highest average savings for transit users.

This information was compiled by the TMA of Lake-Cook, a business association whose mission is to improve employees' commute and work for a better quality of life in Lake and Cook County in northeastern Illinois.

Lake County Uses Alternative to Salt for Icy Roadways

In recent years, Lake County has seen an increase in chloride levels in streams, lakes, and ponds due to road salt run-off.  Salt isn't biodegradable so it stays in our environment and can be toxic to aquatic life. In this video, learn how Lake County is using environmentally friendly liquid alternatives. Watch now.

Vernon Area Public Library to Close for Remodeling - March 5

The Vernon Area Public Library main building will close for remodeling beginning March 5 and is expected to reopen at the end of May. Patrons will have continued access to books, DVDs, games, and other materials via a "Library to Go" to be operated out of the former library building on Indian Creek Road.

The $1.3 million renovation includes a new self-service caf, a quiet reading room with a fireplace, and new dedicated areas for teens, early readers, and group study.
New books and bestsellers, movies, select magazines, and an assortment of other popular materials will be available for browsing and checkout at the "Library to Go." Most other materials will be available by request.

Patrons are also encouraged to explore the many options for digital materials offered by the library, including e-books, downloadable audiobooks, magazines, music, and more. Digital materials are accessible without a physical visit to the library, and are therefore unaffected by the building renovation. Digital content is accessible through the library's website at http://vapld.info
