National Heights Baptist Church ~ E-News              May 2015

May is a month of celebration at National Heights. We celebrate families Sunday, May 3 with our Family Dedication service. We celebrate our moms on Mothers Day, May 10. We celebrate our graduates on Sunday, May 17, a day when we will also join churches around the nation praying for VBS, and when we will celebrate the ministry of the Greene County Baptist Association. Sunday, May 31, we finish the month celebrating our friends with Friend Sunday in the morning and our Picnic and Country Fair in the evening. It promises to be a month of great celebrations as each week we celebrate the Risen Savior. I can't wait to see what God is going to do through you!

Week of Prayer for Association Missions

Friend Sunday
Sunday, May 31 is Friend Day at National Heights.  Through the month of May, make a list of friends you would like to invite to church.  Pray for them daily, that God would make them more receptive to your invitation.  Later in the month, we will have invitation helps, as well as fun ideas for inviting your friends to be a part of our ministries on this special day.  Be sure to invite your friends to join us that evening for our NHBC Picnic and Country Fair starting at 5:00 pm.

Ruth Scott to Lead Bible Study Session

Women on Mission will meet on Tuesday, May 12, at 9:30 a.m. for coffee/snack/share time in the fellowship room of the church building. Hostesses will be Becky Bennett and Autumn Desmuke. All women of the church are invited to attend.

The business session will begin at 10:00 with Vice President Doris Whitcher in charge. Plans for

the summer programs at NHBC will be shared and decisions made as needed concerning ongoing projects. Patti Crocker will lead the women in special prayers for missionaries whose birthdays are on May 12 as she shares from the magazine, Mission Mosaic during the Prayer Patterns time. All women are encouraged to pray daily for missionaries working around the world, sharing the gospel.

Our own Ruth Scott will lead the study of the day with a presentation from the book by John McArthur, Twelve Ordinary Men.This book gives the amazing accounts of Jesus' twelve disciples and how the lives of these very ordinary men were shaped and changed in such meaningful ways after they met Jesus and He touched them. Each one of us can be likewise touched and used if we will listen, trust, and follow the leadership of the Lord in our daily life.

Kelly Phillips, RN Speaks to WOM
On Tuesday, May 26, Women on Mission will gather in the fellowship room of the church at 9:30 a.m. There is going to be a switch-a-rue at this meeting so our guest speaker can be present at the snack time for some getting acquainted and brief visiting with the group.

The 9:30 time will start off with the business session with Vice President Doris Whitcher in charge. Reports will be given. Plans for the church and WOM summer activities will be shared. Also a nominating committee will be appointed. Be praying for this Committee and for each WOM member to be willing to serve in some way. Each person is important in order to accomplish the work. Our WOM is blessed with many capable women who serve the Lord in loving & caring ways that help accomplish together what we cannot do alone. Patti Crocker will lead the Prayer Patterns as prayers are voiced for our missionaries.

At about 10:00 the group will have the traditional coffee/snacks/sharing time. Hostesses for the morning will be Eleanor Hoyt and Roberta Skidmore. Visitors, both men and women, are always welcome to attend and enjoy the fellowship time as well as the business and program times.

Women on Mission is highlighting the importance of National Nurses Month celebrated each May. Our church has a number of men and women engaged in the various avenues of the medical profession. We are proud of each of them and their work in this important field of ministering to others. Kelly Phillips is now a full time oncology nurse and will be our guest speaker on May 26. She is one of our own; she and her family are long time NHBC members. Kelly and her husband are members of the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class taught by Harold and Becky Mabus. This is a growing class of young adults in our church. Kelly will inspire and encourage each one with her personal testimony. Come and be with us!

letters Janice and I want to express our sincere appreciation for the visits, cards, phone calls, and flowers we received with the passing of my father.  It seems like in our darkest hour our Christian friends shine their brightest.  This has been a humbling experience for me as I realize the blessings God gives each of us to share with one another.  National Heights is a great church to be a part of.  Thanks Again,
  ~Gary & Janice Mitchell

Thank you for your tremendous support of the Youth Garage Sale - both in donating goods and in shopping.  Proceeds from the sale totaled over $6,000 which will help with funding for the 22 youth going to World Changers in Fresno, California.  Watch for details in coming weeks about how you can further support the youth in prayer as they go and serve.  ~Brian Miller
