Love God ~ Love People ~ Grow Together
|
|
|
July is a month of camps and mission outreach at National Heights. The month begins with the GCBA SoulQuench youth camp, followed by
Centrikid, Girls Camp, and Boys Camp. Also in July, we participate in two mission trips, the GCBA outreach to Guadalajara, Mexico, and World Changers in Cleveland, Ohio. Pray for those participating, and for the sponsors who make these events possible. God is going to do some exciting things. Continue in prayer for all of these wonderful opportunities for outreach and mission. I can't wait to see what God is going to do through you!

125 Years of Ministry at
NHBC Celebration
On Sunday, July 27, we will be celebrating 125 years of ministry at National Heights. We will have one service for the day at 10:30 a.m. There will be no Sunday School or Evening Worship on that day. Former Long-Term Pastor, Jim Jeffries, has been invited to bring the sermon for that day. We have invited former staff and members to join us for the day. We are asking some former staff to share what has been going on in their, and their family members, life since they left National Heights. We are planning lots of special music both from current and past members. After this extended service we will meet in the gym for lunch. The church will furnish meat, bread and drinks. All active present day church members are asked to bring dishes to share. We will also be participating in a Servant Sunday project. We plan to reach out to those in our community who need to work on Sundays to keep us well and safe, and to let them know we appreciate what they do for us. You will not want to miss these very special activities for this very special day.
We Need Your Help
There will be a sign-up sheet just outside the auditorium for those who will be able to help with the set-up and take-down of the tables and chairs in the gym for the dinner following the 125th Anniversary Celebration. This would involve setting up on Saturday, July 26, and take down after the celebration dinner on Sunday, July 27. If you have questions, please call or see Lynn Woodall.

History Committee Chairman

Servant Sunday
In continuation of celebrating our history on the north side of Springfield, we would like to reach out to those that serve Sunday after Sunday in our community with a Servant Sunday following our celebration. As a church, we plan to take a box of goodies to places such as our fire station, emergency rooms, nursing homes, police stations, etc. There are several ways you can be involved with this project. If you and a couple of other believers would like to deliver a box of goodies to one of the locations, there will be a sign up sheet outside of the sanctuary.
Another way to serve is financial support for this project. Take an envelope, and mark it Servant Sunday, then place it in the
offering plate. Of course, another way would be to bathe this
project in prayer. We will be asking our children's department to decorate cards that we will be attaching to the boxes, thanking those that serve in our community week after week. We hope you will join us as we continue to be a church that shares Christ with our community. ~Becky Chittenden

Prayer Partners needed for
World Changers
Our youth will participate in World Changers in Cleveland, Ohio July 18 - 26. Youth Minister Brian Miller invites the church family to serve as Prayer Partners for the students and their chaperones while they are away. These partners are asked to write a notecard or letter of encouragement for one of the World Changers for each of the 9 days they will travel and serve. Each note will need to be in an envelope with the student's name on the outside. Notes must be turned in to the church office no later than July 16. Enclosures such as food treats are discouraged because the youth will be traveling in unpredictable summer weather.
If you would like to be a Prayer Partner, please pick up a name at the table outside worship starting July 6. The World Changers appreciate your prayers!

Women on Mission to hear Claudette
Riley of Springfield News-Leader
On Tuesday, July 8 at 9:30 Women on Mission meet in Room 521 for a cookie/coffee/chat time. Hostesses for the coffee are Mary McLemore and Sue Hale. Women are reminded that during the month of July they are to bring school supplies needed by our partner school, Fremont Elementary. A list of needed items is provided elsewhere in this newsletter.
At 10:00 the business session under direction of Judy Divine, President, will occur. A nominating committee will be appointed for the selection of officers for the 2014-2015 year, beginning in September.
Patti Crocker will lead Prayer Patterns , a time of special prayer for missionaries serving around the world.
Claudette Riley, News-Leader Reporter of K-12 Education, is the speaker for the morning. She will continue the theme of learning how poverty affects our community and what churches, schools and other organizations, as well as individuals, can do to bring about the cultural changes needed through helping the children of the community. She will be speaking at 11:00.
All women of the church are invited to attend and to participate.

Women on Mission Celebrate
125 Years of Organization
On Tuesday, July 22 at 10:00 our women will gather in room 521 to celebrate! Just as National Heights Baptist Church is celebrating its 125th year since organization, our Nation-wide Women on Mission organization is also celebrating their 125 year anniversary. Our local women's society group was organized in about 1900...records are rather sparse, but from the beginning women have been very active in the work at NHBC.
Shirley Andrus, our special guest speaker, is the area representative for the Baptist women of Southwest Missouri WMU. She will be speaking to the topic "Celebrating 125 years of WMU History." Her presentation will include a variety of media. Come and enjoy this time together.
The business session begins at 10:00 with President Judy Divine in charge. Patti Crocker will be leading the concerted prayer time for missionaries, Prayer Patterns. There will be a salad luncheon at the noon hour with hostesses Eva McNeely and Barbara Fisher. Remember, due to Kid's Café in the fellowship hall, bring only salads/chips/veggies/fruits/desserts that do not require warming.

School Supplies Needed For
Fremont Elementary
Women on Mission are again sponsoring the collection of school supplies for Fremont Elementary students. Each kindergarten student will receive a "Welcome Bag" as a greeting to Fremont. The other supplies will be given to the teachers to distribute as needed by the students. This year the list of items is somewhat different due to the postponement of the Fremont building enlargement plans and their lack of storage. These are the items requested by the principal that are most needed. Please bring these items during the month of July and place in the tubs at the church entryways. Those who prefer to give a monetary gift may do so. Just indicate on your offering envelope, Fremont School Supplies. Thank you so very much!
