From the Pastor's Desk

desk

March means Missions at National Heights. This month we focus on North American Missions and the exciting work of our North American Mission Board. The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering enables NAMB missionaries to proclaim the gospel to military bases, hospitals, inner city neighborhoods, and more. NHBC has set a goal of $9000 for our 2013 offering.

At the end of the month, we will join with believers around the world to celebrate our Savior's Resurrection. Sunday, March 24, the choir will present I Will Rise, a musical reminding us that we serve a Risen Savior. On Easter Sunday, March 31, our morning services will provide opportunities to worship and to introduce friends and neighbors to the Lord. Our Preschool and Children's ministry is also planning special events to help our children learn about the meaning of this special celebration. I can't wait to see what God is going to do through you!

"Whatever it Takes" missions theme

WHATEVER IT TAKES ... reaching the one is the theme for the North American Missions emphasis during the month of March 2013. The Scripture theme is Acts 8:26-31, the account of Philip explaining a passage from Isaiah 53 to the Ethiopian traveler on the road from Jerusalem to Gaza. During this emphasis Southern Baptist Churches spend added time in learning about and praying for the spiritual needs of our nation and we receive the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions. This year the national goal is $70 million. Our National Heights Church goal is $9,000. Christians are sent by God to carry His message of love, mercy, and redemption to everyone. This offering is one way we can participate in missions in our nation.

WOM collects supplies for school nurse

On Tuesday, March 12 Women on Mission will gather at 9:30 for a coffee in the fellowship room. Hostesses for the coffee are Mildred Burns and Esther O'Dell. All women of the church are invited to attend. The business session will begin at 10:00 led by President Judy Divine with reports and making of decisions related to mission projects. Patti Crocker will lead the group in the Prayer Patterns, a prayer time for our missionaries serving around the world.

The program, Whatever It Takes, will be led by Eva McNeely who will share information and prayer requests from our missionaries serving in the United States and Canada. Come and enjoy this time of learning and praying together.

Women are reminded that during the month of March the group is collecting toiletry and personal items for the nurse at Watkins Elementary to dispense as needed. Please bring shampoo, hand soap, combs, hair brushes, hair ribbon, tiebacks, tooth paste, tooth brushes, deodorant, nail clippers, socks, underpants for boys and girls in small sizes. Bring these items to the March meetings.

Humorous presentation at Prime Timers

Plan to join the Prime Timers on Thursday, March 21 at 11:00am for our monthly luncheon meeting in the fellowship hall. Before the program, Carl Rose, President, will lead a short business session.Seniors

Our program guest is Jim Bunch who will present "A Satire on Selecting a Preacher." Jim is a native Missourian. He has been in the ministry for sixty-one years retiring in 1996. Thirty-four years he was a pastor in Iowa at four different churches. He and his wife, Eula, are currently members of Glenstone Baptist Church. She will assist him in the presentation.

There have been rave reviews of this presentation and the quality of the material. Be sure and bring your friends for this witty and entertaining presentation. Hostesses for the covered dish luncheon are Eva McNeeley and Lynda Rose.

Please remember we will be collecting canned items for Grand Oak Mission Center.

Remember Senior Choir at 1:00 p.m.

Youth Rummage Sale in April

Sale

The youth group has set their annual Rummage Sale for Friday and Saturday, April 12 & 13 in the church garage. There will be a Pre-Sale for the church family only on Thursday, April 11. In the interest of fairness, to assure that the entire church family has equal opportunity to shop, no purchases will be allowed before April 11.

The youth are now accepting donations for the sale! All types of items are welcome, from clothing, to furniture, to household goods, to books and games -- but no mattresses please. If you have items you wish to be picked up, please call Brian Miller at 833-4111 and he will make an appointment to come by and pick up your donation at your convenience. This sale is a blessing to our community and all sale proceeds support the youth ministry. Special thanks to all the volunteers who already are working to process donations for the sale.

In celebration, we would like to invite you to a Foster Parent Shower on Saturday, March 16 at 10:00 a.m. The Kramers will be fostering children two years and older. They have registered for some needed items at Toys R Us and Walmart. The hostesses would also suggest gift cards to these stores since Foster Parents are unsure of specifically what they will need until a child arrives in their home. If you have any questions the hostesses are: Becky Chittenden; Samantha Stone; Suzy Roberts; Harriet Arnold and Becky Woodall.
