 WPS Academic Calendar Meeting

The WPS Academic Calendar Committee will be having two parent meetings on Thursday, September 19th to discuss possible changes to the school calendar.

9-10 am at the Town Hall Juliani Room

7-8 pm Wellesley High School Faculty Dining Room

The Academic Calendar Committee is looking for feedback from the community regarding possible changes such as: starting the school year earlier so that it ends earlier, eliminating religious holidays, changing our vacation schedules, etc.

We will be letting the Committee know that the evening meeting conflicts with Upham's Back to School Night and expect that they will be receptive to feedback via email.  We will be providing further updates on who to contact with your feedback. However, if you can make the morning meeting on the 19th, it is an excellent opportunity for your voice to be heard.  Please let us know of any questions.

Coming soon: BOKS for Kids! Sign up now!

A new morning exercise program is coming to Upham in October. BOKS is designed to jump start kids' brains and prepare them for a day of learning. It was a big hit in pilot programs at Schofield and Hunnewell last spring and is now going district wide!

The program will be run by volunteer parents. We could use more help! Sign up for training here or email Veronica Bacon
 for more info.

    UPHAM PHYSICAL EDUCATION

A Message from Ms. Walsh

Welcome (back) to Upham! My name is Kristen Walsh and I am the Fitness and Health teacher at Upham Elementary School. During Physical Education class we will be working on activities designed to increase physical fitness and physical activity. Our activities will focus on the development of motor skills as well as working on activities to increase health related components of physical fitness, i.e., flexibility, and muscular endurance. We will also learn that good sportsmanship is key to a successful PE experience. We will work as individuals and as group members in obtaining our goals. Often we work on these goals through games, moving to music, and cooperative activities. Our aim is to promote an enjoyment of physical activities that will last a lifetime.

Here are some tips for a successful P.E. class:

1. Please wear sneakers (tie or Velcro that cover the entire foot)

2. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing

3. Be safe

4. Always try your best

5. HAVE FUN
