I am really pleased to announce my acceptance into "Women Making Faces" an exhibit of female Arizona portrait artists showcasing their paintings of women who have been notable in Arizona's history. The Exhibit, organized under the aegis of the Chandler Center for the Arts, is expected to represent ten artists, who together will exhibit their works. More details in future newsletters!
Portraits Inc's New York City gallery, which debuted in its new Upper East side location last month , opens its new show "Our Great Hope: Contemporary Children's Portraits" on April 9, 2015 Curator Michael Gormley has included three of my portraits in the exhibit, which will run through May 23, 2015. See the invitation below, and please share with friends and family who might find themselves in the area - I should have some pics of the entire show in time for the next newsletter.

New still life works
I am trying to spend one day per week painting flowers, and hope to try a different flower every week, especially those that seem staggeringly complicated! It causes me to slow down and consider the characteristics of different plants, the subtleties of stem structures, and differences among different blooms of the same plant.

Best of Show:"William Whitaker: American Artist"
Portrait Artists of Arizona's Fifth Annual Juried Exhibition and Sale
Scottsdale Artists' School hosted the Opening Reception PAOA exhibit on Saturday. March 28, and I was so delighted that Judge NancyChaboun awarded my painting of Bill Whitaker "Best of Show". This award is all the more meaningful to me because this portrait is of my teacher, mentor and friend - a man who has done so much for me in my art life. Thank you, Bill.
The Exhibit runs through April 24, so stop in to see it if you are in Old Town Scottsdale!

Beat the heat!!!! Next summer, I'll be teaching again in Prescott, AZ. "For Love or Money: Portraiture and the Pursuit of Excellence" is a 4-day portrait painting workshop that focuses on both painting skills and on the business aspects of art. I do not take more than 12 students in my workshops; every one of my students deserves a lot of personal attention, and I don't believe that can be accomplished with a larger student group. August 27-30, 2015 Lowell, MI
Next summer, I'll be again conducting a 4-day portrait painting workshop that focuses on both painting skills and on the business aspects of art. I am very excited to teach in this beautiful facility, in an equally beautiful setting - it's been years - and I mean YEARS - since I've been in the Upper Midwest for summer, and it will be a fantastic time of year. Again, space is EXTREMELY limited. I do not take more than 12 students in my workshops; every one of my students deserves a lot of personal attention, and I don't believe that can be accomplished with a larger student group.
