I hope you are all having a relaxing - or at least productive - summer! All is typically busy here, and typically hot, sigh.
Please feel free to share my newsletter with others who might find it interesting...see you next month!

Look for detailed times and dates for future events on my Blog  (it's the green button below, why it isn't the standard orange, I have no idea:) )

Burton Silverman: American Artist

Third in my series of portraits of artists who have mentored me, helped me, or otherwise had a positive impact on my art life, I'm really thrilled to share this portrait of NY painter, Burt Silverman, whom I first met nearly 20 years ago. He remains a daily inspiration, both for his work and for the man he is.I met Burt at his Manhattan studio last winter, and photographed him amongst his fabulous work, some of which you can enjoy here. Oil, 28 x 28

Workshop: Mountain Artists' Guild
July 21-24, Prescott, AZ

What a fabulous week! On Monday and Wednesday we painted from our live models, Julie under a warm light, and Percy, under a cool light, continuing the respective portraits from photo references on Tuesday and Thursday. I wanted everyone to have the chance to paint extremely different subjects in gender, age and skin tones, and with different lighting conditions.

Above, our Class Kiwi (Anne, who came all the way from New Zealand to take this class!), and two other excellent examples of what my amazing students did this week ...(more on my Blog). I don't' know that I have ever had a harder working group of students, nor a group who taught me as much. Thanks and kudos to all!

Workshop: Franciscan Life Process Center
October 9-12, Lowell, MI
This fall, I'll be again conducting a 4-day portrait painting workshop that focuses on both painting skills and on the business aspects of art.

I am very excited to teach in this beautiful facility, in an equally beautiful setting - it's been years - and I mean YEARS - since I've been in the Upper Midwest for Autumn, and it will be a fantastic time of year.

Again, space is EXTREMELY limited. I do not take more than 12 students in my workshops; every one of my students deserves a lot of personal attention, and I don't believe that can be accomplished with a larger student group.

See the details here on Facebook - you can register directly through Evertbrite - hope to see you there!
