Although I've conducted workshops in AZ for many years, I am excited to be teaching in two new venues, one in Colorado this August, and another in Michigan this October. Weather should be glorious in both - and it couldn't be a better schedule for me to escape this summer heat in Phoenix!

This May brought the 4th Annual Portrait Artists of Arizona Exhibition and Sale, May 1-29, and it was tremendous fun doing a live on-site demo at the Bezalel Gallery  in Old Town Scottsdale with fellow artists.

Look for detailed times and dates for future events on my Blog  (it's the green button below, why it isn't the standard orange, I have no idea:) )

Portrait Society of America
April 24-27, Reston, VA

Each year, this spectacular Annual Conference sells out registration as over 600 portrait artists from around the world converge to take part in lectures, demonstrations, and inspirational camaraderie, as they strive to share and learn about moving their portrait art forward to new levels. The annual competition is a highly regarded event, highlighting twenty finalists from (this year) 1700 entries (talk about a challenging job for jurors and judges alike!)

As a long-time active member and Chairman of the Society's Cecilia Beaux Forum's Literature Committee, I am always honored to be asked to participate in educational activities. This year will bought participation on a panel discussing ways to promote our art, and to specifically talk about self-publishing for portrait artists.

On Saturday morning, April 26, my artist friend Oscar Peterson  modeled for me  for a live demo - utilizing painting materials from the Gamblin folks, a palette from New Wave Art, and using the ever wonderful Rosemary Brushes.

On Friday afternoon, the day's activities culminated with the "6x9 Mystery Sale", always greeted with energy and lot of enthusiasm - the Society invites faculty and guest artists to paint an image of their choice on a a 6"x9" panel (or comparable), and several hundred pieces are simultaneously unveiled - pieces are auctioned off over a VERY short period of time - 30 minutes - artists don't sign their work on the front, only on the back, so often buyers don't know the artist until after they've purchased  their art - each for a low flat price of $250. Proceeds are used to fund scholarships.

Below is my 2014 donation:)

Workshop: Mountain Artists' Guild
July 21-24, Prescott, AZ

_______________________________________________________________________________

Beat the summer heat!  I'll be teaching a 4-day portrait painting workshop that focuses on both painting skills and on the business aspects of art. The workshop will be hosted by the Mountain Artists' Guild, just off the historic Prescott Courthouse Square.

If you'd like to improve your painting skills, learn more about how to market and promote your art, and have a wonderful time doing so, please join me!

Space is EXTREMELY limited. I do not take more than 12 students in my workshops; every one of my students deserves a lot of personal attention, and "model-crowding" serves no one well:)

To register, please contact the Guild or me for more information about the class. See you there!

Workshop: Franciscan Life Process Center
October 9-12, Lowell, MI
This fall, I'll be again conducting a 4-day portrait painting workshop that focuses on both painting skills and on the business aspects of art.

I am very excited to teach in this beautiful facility, in an equally beautiful setting - it's been years - and I mean YEARS - since I've been in the Upper Midwest for Autumn, and it will be a fantastic time of year.

Again, space is EXTREMELY limited. I do not take more than 12 students in my workshops; every one of my students deserves a lot of personal attention, and I don't believe that can be accomplished with a larger student group.

See the details here on Facebook - you can register directly through Evertbrite - hope to see you there!
