Spring will be here in a few weeks. SERIOUSLY?! February flew by and was really filled with some wonderful experiences - saw many old friends, and met many new during my travels.

I'll be adding some workshops to my schedule (see side block to the left) this next 12 months, and am very excited to explore some new teaching venues.

Faces of Winter 2014: Building on Classics

Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists

The Faces of Winter Show showcased 83 portraits and I was so excited to see the breadth and quality of work in this event, and just as much so to have the chance to learn directly from portrait-world greats, including (but definitely not limited to) John Howard Sanden, Robert Alexander Anderson, Max Ginsburg, and  Nelson Shanks.

Artists' Magazine April 2014 - Article

Artists' Magazine editor Maureen Bloomfield recently asked me to review a new Gamblin product, Oil-free Solvent Gel Medium as part of the magazine's regular "Road Test" column. I've long been a fan of Robert Gamblin's art supplies, and was delighted to have been asked to try out something new.

The information packet on the medium claims that it can clean brushes. It does. It also cleaned and moisturized my hands in the field!

For artists who travel with supplies, it is really an enormous advantage to be able to fly with non-toxic, non-flammable products.

Rachel: Life Study at the Art Students' League of New York
As long as I've been painting, I've been enchanted by the romance of the Art Students' League of New York. It is iconic, has hosted more of my art heroes - both as students and instructors, than I can count. It is beyond lucky that I was able to find my way in on an early Sunday morning, courtesy of my artist friend Joel Spector, and to paint with a living great, Max Ginsburg.
