HURRICANE / DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

PRESENTED BY: Robert Molleda, Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service Miami/South Florida Forecast Office. 


 
This informative presentation will include:

  • Brief description of South Florida's hurricane history;
  • Seasonal prediction;
  • Specific vulnerability to tropical storms and hurricanes (i.e., flooding, storm surge);
  • Summary of National Weather Service (NWS) resources and information;
  • NWS services during an event; and
  • General awareness tips.

Presentation will take less than an hour, allowing time to discuss topics and issues specific to the Palmetto Bay area. Resource information will be provided by the Village's Public Works department, including the following brochures and guides:

  • Public Works 2015 Hurricane Season Preparedness Brochure
  • Miami-Dade County 2015 Guide to Hurricane Readiness Packet
  • Miami-Dade County Emergency and Evacuation Assistance Program Applications (English and Spanish)
  • Miami-Dade County Disaster Preparedness Animal Supplies checklist
  • Brochure of Stores and Gas Stations with Generators
