Greetings from Village Hall

This has certainly been an exciting time in Palmetto Bay, not only because of all the amazing community events around town, but because we just recently concluded a long -- and exhausting -- election season. Allow me to congratulate our new Vice Mayor John DuBois and Councilmember-District 2 Tim Schaffer. I would also like to thank our past Vice Mayor, Brian Pariser, and former Councilmember Howard Tendrich for their years of service to our Village. Their commitment and diligence helped to make Palmetto Bay what it is today: a safe and beautiful municipality that boasts wonderful parks, excellent fiscal management, and environmentally conscious programs and services -- a small town with a big sense of community.

And nowhere in the Village will you get a greater sense of community this time of year than at Ludovici Park, home of the Edward & Arlene Feller Amphitheater, that plays host to the Third Annual Holiday by the Bay. My family and I are thrilled with how Village staff transforms the park each year with lights and decorations. And our grandchildren just love all the bright lights and the opportunity to sit on Santa's lap to have their pictures taken. Please come out and join us. And please have a safe and pleasant holiday.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town on Saturday
for Village's
 Annual Holiday-by-the-Bay

Take a break from your last-minute holiday shopping to spend a few hours with old friends and neighbors -- and let the kids enjoy a mini-midway at Palmetto Bay's "Holiday by the Bay" Saturday, Dec. 22, 4-8 p.m. Ludovici Park, will be transformed into a veritable Christmas wonderland, complete with carnival  rides, festive foods, arts & crafts, and a special appearance by Santa. Also enjoy student performances at the Edward & Arlene Feller Amphitheater. It's all free, all fun, and easy to get to - at 17641 Old Cutler Road, Palmetto Bay -- or via bicycle directly off the Old Cutler Bike Path at the the Palmetto Bay Branch Library. Ample parking is available at the Palmetto Bay Village Center. See photos from the 2011 celebration.

Be sure to visit the Village website for details and coverage of other recent holiday events. And if you are interested in underwriting the cost of a Village event, please contact Mary Fernandez, Special Events Supervisor, or call 305-259-1234.

Bustamante Named Officer of the Month

Officer Maria Bustamante was recognized as the Distinguished Officer of the Month, a county-wide award, Dec. 18. She is the first member of the our Village's Policing Unit bestowed the honor. Officer Bustamante received the award for her heroic lifesaving efforts in response to an unresponsive, unconscious 86-year-old resident. Officer Bustamante administered CPR and used an automated external defibrillator to resuscitate the man. Doctors later confirmed that without her intervention, he would not have lived. We thank Officer Bustamante for her service and are grateful to all of our professional and vigilant Miami-Dade County Police Officers serving our community. See coverage on the Village Facebook.
