Palmetto Bay Vice-Mayor DuBois, Councilmember Schaffer Sworn In

It will be a December to remember, as two new members of the Village Council were sworn in Monday night at Village Hall. In a ceremony preceding the Regular Council Meeting, Dec 3, newly elected Vice-Mayor John DuBois and Councilmember-Seat 2 Tim Schaffer were sworn into office, before a capacity crowd.

Vice Mayor John DuBois is businessman, civic leader, and philanthropist who has spent his entire career in the Telecommunications industry. In 2008, he founded Eyecast, a cloud-based Video Surveillance company and is currently the President and CEO. Vice Mayor DuBois moved to Palmetto Bay in 2001. Mr. DuBois attended American University in Washington, D.C., where he earned a B.S. in Economics and Business Administration, and Masters in Technology of Management.

Councilman Tim Schaffer is a long-time resident of Miami-Dade County. He attended Miami-Dade Public Schools and received his B.S. from the University of Miami in 1982. As the sole proprietor of the independent office of Woodbury Financial Services, Inc., he has spent 29 years in the financial consulting industry as a financial adviser, registered representative, investment adviser representative, and an insurance agent. Mr. Schaffer has also received several financial industry awards as an expert in the areas of business consulting, retirement planning and financial advising.

Village's Holiday-by-the-Bay, Dec. 22, Offers Fun, Food, Festivities

The Chabad of Palmetto Bay will hold their annual menorah lighting ceremony Dec 9 at 6pm -- one of the great traditions of Jewish faith -- in front of the Starbucks off of Old Cutler Rd and 168th St. There is going to be food and fun to be had by all. For more information you can call Chabad at 786-282-0413.

Join us, Dec 15, to experience a truly fantastic display of holiday spirit and generosity by the Palmetto Bay Canal Association and the residents of our caring Village. The boat parade route travels south on the canal through Palmetto Bay, passes by Bill Sadowski Park, ends in southwest Palmetto Bay. Residents may spectate and donate food all along the canal route, but those who do not have canal access may donate from the Coral Reef Park pedestrian bridge, between 4:30 and 5:30 pm -- just prior to the parade launch. For more information call 305-799-8533 or e-mail Rainer Schael.

Wrapping up the event season, Palmetto Bay's incredibly popular Annual Holiday by the Bay," Dec. 22., is a veritable Christmas wonderland on Biscayne Bay. Enjoy student holiday performances, carnival foods, arts & crafts, and a special appearance by Santa Claus himself. Last year's event drew over 2,000 people and we are hopeful to see many more this year.

Please visit the Village website for details on these and other holiday activities, events, and information. And if you are interested in underwriting the cost of these or any other annual Village event, please contact Mary Fernandez, Special Events Supervisor or call 305-259-1234.
