WWII Wyoming Cowboy Topic of
D-Day Brown Bag Discussion
|
ABILENE, Kansas - The Eisenhower Presidential Library, Museum and Boyhood Home will host a brown bag D-Day talk Monday, June 6, at noon in the Visitors Center Auditorium.Author Maureen "Micki" Carroll will present "Photographer, Paratrooper, POW: A Wyoming Cowboy in Hitler's Germany," based on her book of the same title. Using WWII-era photographs and family correspondence, Carroll's book tells the story of three brothers who left their native Wyoming to fight in the war. She focuses on the story of brother Harold Carroll, an early Army airborne soldier who parachuted into Normandy in the first wave of Allied soldiers in the D-Day invasion. Harold Carroll spent the remainder of the war escaping German POW camps.Visitors are encouraged to bring their lunch (bottled water will be furnished) and hear about the many adventures of the Carroll family during WWII. Following the program the author will sign copies of the books available for purchase in the gift shop.
Maureen Carroll is a writer of books and articles, including a series on diversity. She researches and writes historical non-fiction and historical fiction, inspirational books and children's books. Carroll is also a business writer creating courses, workshops and programs for business and community leaders. |
