Celebrating 125 Years of Dwight Eisenhower

ABILENE, Kan. - The Eisenhower Presidential Library has partnered with the Kansas City Public Library to create the "Ike 125" lecture series commemorating the 125th birthday of Dwight Eisenhower.

Dwight David Eisenhower was born 125 years ago on October 14, 1890, the same year the U.S. Census Bureau declared the western frontier closed. He died in March 1969, the same year Americans landed on the moon, thanks to his creation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. From frontier to frontier, Ike 125 will explore the Eisenhower legacy from new angles of research and offer new vistas on the greatest soldier-statesman of the 20th century.

The lecture series begins May 20 with a program at the Kansas City Public Library featuring Evan Thomas. Subsequent programs will be held at both the Kansas City Public Library and the Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene. Guest speakers include Dominque Franįois, John Robert Greene, Yanek Mieczkowski, and Tim Rives. Each of these programs will include refreshments and the final program scheduled on October 14 will include cake for the occasion of Eisenhower's birthday.
