The program will include a video presentation and a question and answer session by World War II Pacific Veteran Edward T. Matheny, Kansas City, Mo. Matheny served on the staffs of two of the great Navy leaders in the Pacific Theatre of World War II--Chester W. Nimitz, Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Fleet (CINCPAC) and Raymond A. Spruance, Commander Fifth Fleet. His book recounts his own experiences, those of other Kansas Citians in the armed forces and those who served on the home front.
Sometimes called the "Ruptured Duck," the Honorable Service Lapel Pin was awarded to United States military service members who were discharged under honorable conditions during World War II, between September 1939 and December 1946.
This program supplements the World War II Remembered: Leaders, Battles & Heroes exhibit currently on display in the Museum. The exhibit is a three-year commemoration of WWII marking the 70th anniversaries of the war and its aftermath as told through personal stories.
