 The History Buff's Guide
Philadelphia's Historic District
Philadelphia's Historic District is the place to visit for history buffs. Called the "Most Historic Mile" in the United States, this area includes Old City, Society Hill and the Waterfront District. Here you can walk the same cobbled streets as the forefathers of our country, see the places where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were written and adopted, and visit museums that preserve this rich history such as the National Constitution Center and the Philadelphia History Museum. A good place to start your visit is the Independence Visitor Center where you can plan your day and get tickets to tour Independence Hall or the Betsy Ross House. Visit the Liberty Bell, stroll down Elfreth's Alley (the oldest residential street in the country), or take a tour of Historic Philadelphia. There are many tour options: walking, trolley, bus, ferry and duck tours! Photo: J. Smith for GPTMC

Tickets to one of these historic sites or tours coupled with a B&B Connection Gift Certificate would make a thoughtful present for history buffs. How wonderful it would be for a history lover to wake up in a home on Elfreth's Alley, in a loft with views of Christ Church, or in a cozy room just a stone's throw from Head House Square! These unique accommodations and more, each with its own distinct characteristics and amenities, are located in the Historic District . The 1807 Townhouse, Bartram B&B, New Market B&B, Old City Loft, and the Society Hill Studio are all within walking distance of the historic sites. This neighborhood is also rich with galleries, boutiques and bistros. You can find pictures and information about each of these accommodations which are listed alphabetically by clicking here.
