To: Participants of the Agbiz/IDC Agribusiness Confidence Index
Results and interpretation of Agbiz/IDC Agribusiness Confidence Index in the third quarter of 2013, as background to the survey for the fourth quarter of 2013
Agbiz / IDC Agribusiness Confidence index dropped by 20%
The Agricultural Business Chamber (Agbiz), with the support of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), constructs the Agbiz / IDC Agribusiness Confidence Index on a quarterly basis. The Confidence in the agribusiness sector indicated a gradual recovery trend since the all-time low in the third quarter of 2009. Over the past year, this trend has flattened out, until the downward trend commenced early 2013. The Agbiz/IDC Agribusiness Confidence Index reached a level of 50.16 index level in the third quarter of 2013, indicating that only half of agribusiness decision-makers and executives are positive about the agribusiness environment. This is 20% lower than the third quarter of 2012 and 11% lower than the preceding quarter.
The Agbiz/IDC Agribusiness Confidence Index is compiled from responses from agribusiness executives and decision-makers from agribusinesses across the entire country, serving all the different industries in the agricultural sector. The overall index is constructed from ten sub-indices. The changes of the sub-indices further explain the drop in the overall confidence.
