Minister Edna Molewa releases final National Water Resource Strategy (NWRS2)

National Water Resources

The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Minister Edna Molewa, this week released the final version of the National Water Resource Strategy (Version 2) after a process of public consultation.  The NWRS will in all probability impact significantly on agriculture and the agro-food industry through the proposed changes to water management, allocation and costs. It is especially irrigated agriculture and agribusinesses servicing irrigation producers that need to consider the implications of the NWRS2 very carefully. Please click on NWRS2 to peruse the Strategy.

Volunteer "It's in your hands to make the world a better place."   - Nelson Mandela.

Mandela Day was celebrated last week, bringing with it a host of community-related initiatives running throughout the month of July. Public Interest Lawyer Louise Bick of Werksmans Attorneys breaks down ten legalities around volunteering.

1. What are the options as regards involvement and commitment?
2. What is the structure of a charity organisation?
3. What are the different registration categories?
4. Can I get a tax exemption for my contribution?
5. Why might I be asked to sign a Code of Conduct?
6. Can I expect payment or some sort of compensation?
7. I'd like to capture the moment on camera - can I go ahead?
8. When working with children and the elderly, what are the special considerations?
9. Can you give any guidelines on choosing a cause to support?
10. Who do I speak to if I have concerns?
