Agbiz comments on 2013/2014 budget speech
 In recognition of a rather bleak global and local economic outlook, Agbiz welcomes a rather bold budget 2013/2014, as presented yesterday by Minister of Finance, Mr Pravin Gordhan. There was an underlying sense to move to greater austerity, as the budget deficit has increased and real tax revenue has decreased over the past couple of years. Against that background, Agbiz supports the new initiatives and focus areas that are to be financed from savings, efficiency gains and reprioritisation. Werksmans' Tax Overview - Budget Proposals 2013/14
From a tax perspective, it must be said that the number of proposed changes to the various fiscal Acts (mainly the Income Tax Act and the VAT Act) are considerably fewer than in prior years. If this results in a reduction in the number of amendments to be made to the various Acts, this will certainly be welcome, as the extent of the changes in the past few years has simply been overwhelming. However, a number of important tax proposals have been made in Minister Pravin Gordhan's Budget that will affect agribusinesses, and these need to be perused. Read more»
