Government tables new Fertilizers and Feeds Bill
Agribusinesses dealing in Animal Feeds and Fertilizers are urgently advised to peruse the new Fertilizers and Feeds Bill [B41-2012], as published on 28 November 2012, to determine possible impacts on their respective business operations. The aim of the Bill is "To provide for the licensing of facilities and rendering plants; to provide for the registration of feed additives, raw materials, animal by-products, imported fertilizers, feeds or pet foods, and home mixers; to provide for the appointment of a Registrar to administer the Act; to provide for the establishment of the Technical Standards Advisory Council; to provide for the designation of technical advisers, analysts and auditors; to provide for the regulation of the import, export, acquisition, disposal, sale or use of fertilizers and feeds; to repeal certain laws relating to fertilizers, feeds and sterilizing plants; and to provide for matters connected therewith". If promulgated as an Act, it will in effect replace parts of Act 36 0f 1947, "The Fertilizers, Farm Feeds, Agricultural Remedies and Stock Remedies Act".

Final area planted and crop production figures
At a meeting held on 29 December 2012, the Crop Estimates Liaison Committee (CELC) oversaw the process for the finalisation of the crop production figures of commercial white and yellow maize, sunflower seed, soya beans, groundnuts and sorghum for 2012. Read more»
