2U Folk Fundraiser TONIGHT
|
February 16, 2013
8:00pm
Join us for an evening of home-grown tunes with two of Chicago's finest strumming singers: Chris Corsale and Laura Joy.
Last year's acoustic event featuring the wonderful trio We're About 9 received almost universal acclaim, and packed Fleishman Hall to overflowing with more than 40 people in attendance. This year, we're spreading out into the sanctuary, and will be plugging in so everyone can hear and enjoy the music.
Lots more information, including performances by both of this year's artists, is available on the 2U website.
Tickets: Special 2U Members and Friends tickets are available for $25 and will come bundled with an exclusive recording of the show. General admission tickets are available for $20, and tickets for kids under 10 are available for $15. B uy your ticket now from Brown Paper Tickets. Use the password anvil to buy the special fundraising combo ticket online.
Don't miss out on this great opportunity to hear outstanding local singer-songwriters while supporting 2U. We hope to see you there!

Winter Orientation
|
Sundays, February 17, February 24, March 3, 2013
12:00-2:00pm
Calling all visitors-- who want to become members!
The 2U winter orientation will be held Sunday, February 17; Sunday, February 24; and Sunday, March 3 following services.
Sessions are scheduled to begin at noon in Fleischman Hall and will end at 2 pm or before.
If you are interested in attending and have not already signed up, please reserve your place with Jen Duston, church office administrator; you can contact her via email, or by phone at (773) 549-0260 ext. 10.
Child care will be available for those who request it in advance.
While attending any one of these three orientations will meet the by-law requirement for membership, attending all three will provide a greater breadth and depth of understanding for the theological roots of our community, ways to engage with the 2U community, how 2U is organized, and what membership really means.
If you have questions about attending, please e-mail membership committee chair John Broome.

Town Hall Meeting
|
Sunday, February 24, 2013
12:00pm
The Sunday Services Committee (SSC) invites your input on how to best fill the pulpit when our minister is not preaching. We do not currently have a sufficient number of lay preachers for the 12 services that are typically open every year. The SSC has extensively explored this concern among ourselves, with the Board of Trustees, and the Committee on Ministry chair, and has developed several suggestions. We would like to have a conversation with you, the congregation, and bring your ideas into the discussion so that we can make the best choice among the options available. We are committed to having lay services continue and to adding to these to have meaningful worship . If you would like further information about the Town Hall meeting or if you would like to send us your ideas, please email us. You are also welcome to talk with any of us on the committee. We look forward to a lively discussion on February 24. In faith, SSC: Gary Bondurant, John Broome, Margaret Redlich, Jill Siegel, Jim Simonis, Shauna Womeldorff, Rev. Adam Robersmith, and Linda Marquis

A Service on Service
|
A Patchwork Service presented by your Board of Trustees
Sunday, March 3, 2013
10:30am
At 2U, each of us has something to give. Giving of our time and talent is our gift to the church, others, and ourselves. Service can be our actions for justice, equity, and compassion in human relations. Our willingness to serve can stand as proof of our belief in the inherent worth and dignity of all people. Please join us for this patchwork service with mini-homilies from board members Jonathan Dunmore, Andrea LeVasseur, Gregory Redfeairn, and Monica Drane. We will explore what it means to serve and how we can find ways to serve in our lives.

Creating Connection: A UU Exploration of Prayer
|
February 21, February 28, March 7 2013
7:00pm
Is UUism compatible with prayer? How? I don't believe in God, so how would I pray? Isn't prayer just wishful thinking? To whom do I pray? Can I pray? I believe in some form of Divinity, but I don't believe in something that listens to each of my concerns. Should I pray? How would I do it?
On Thursdays at 7pm from Feb 21 to Mar 7, Rev. Adam will be leading a class exploring what prayer is, how people pray, and what it means for UUs to pray. This class is appropriate for atheists, agnostics, and theists; Buddhists, Christians, or Pagans; new UUs or long time UUs; people with strong spiritual practices or none at all.
If you've ever wondered why someone would pray or wanted to start a practice of prayer, please sign up on the Welcome Table or contact Rev. Adam to let him know you'll be participating.

Share Stories, Mold Character:
Our Children's and Your Own
|
Did you know Susan B. Anthony was a Unitarian?
No? Then we need YOU to volunteer in our Children and Youth Faith Development program (CYFD)!
Have you heard the story of Buddha's Birthday? Do you know all 7 UU Promises and what colors of the rainbow each represents?
No? Then we need YOU to volunteer in our Spirit Play classrooms (preschool through 2nd grade)!
We are in GREAT need of Spirit Play storytellers and doorkeepers. No experience is required-- just a willingness to spend some time with our young ones. We're looking for folks to volunteer one Sunday a month (classes take place during the normal Sunday services). We have wonderful and experienced teachers who started out just like you.
Depending on your interest, you can tell our UU stories using prepared story baskets or you can assist the storyteller with attendance, individual "work" time (aka individual play), and Feast (no cooking required either, hehe).
If you are interested or just curious, please contact Kellie Kelly for more information (a background check is required).
