A Message from the Reverend Andy Dunks

Coming Together or Coming Apart?

I can't think of anything more important to say right now, in light of all that is going on in our nation right now, than this short quote below. It's message is urgent - on several levels - and yet as a typically individualistic American I still need to be reminded continually of its truth.

Christianity is a communal faith, one that requires its followers to be actively involved with others. The Church's worship is communal, and salvation itself is a corporate act, one that necessitates interaction with others. One is not "saved" in a vacuum, but as part of the corporal life of the Church. Your salvation must be as much a concern to me, as is my own salvation. My relationship with Christ is not about me, but about us. Our sins are not just against God, but against the Body of Christ, the Church, and against all of our other neighbors outside the Church as well. Our love of God cannot be salvific if we do not love others, for just as the Lord said, "If someone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? (1 John 4:20)". - Abbott Tryphon, All-Merciful Savior Monastery

Love is the ministry to which we have been entrusted; Love is both the goal and the means of its achievement.  May God give us grace to remember this, especially when there are others nearby who need God's love through us.
Amen.

Blessings,

Annual Ice Cream Social  -  This Sunday
hot fudge sundae
This Sunday after the 10:30 service, we will celebrate
Frank Wood's 87th birthday with the traditional ice cream
social along with some special coffee! Manyang Kher, a
Lost Boy from Sudan, will be there with his "734" coffee.
734 (or 7.9220N and 34.1532E) is the geographical coordinates
for Gambela, a region in Ethiopia where over 200,000
Sudanese have taken refuge. Each bag is $10 and supports
those refugees through Manyang's "Humanity Helping Sudan Project" by providing
funds to raise chickens, create fishing nets, and grow crops. Bring cash or a
check to purchase some of the coffee and help their efforts. The coffee is great.
So plan to enjoy ice cream sundaes, root beer floats, and to support our brothers
and sisters in South Sudan.

you have to do is bring goodies to share, stay and enjoy the company and then
clean up afterwards. This time gives us the opportunity to get to know other

First Sunday Food Donations for the Hungry

We continue to collect food donations on the first Sunday of each month.
If you forget that scheduled collection date, just add your donations
to the
box to the right of the door anytime. We are currently delivering
the food to the Lamb's Basket Food Pantry in the Lakeside neighborhood. While
they accept any canned or packaged, food, items they regularly distribute to
each family the following products:

Pasta sauces
Soups
Beans
Vegetables
macaroni and cheese boxes
dry pasta
fruit (they have a goodly supply of fruit right now.)

In addition, they offer choices of juices, staples such as cooking oil, condiments
and a shelf of toiletries, detergents and paper goods. On my last delivery, they
mentioned they were low on baby food.

They would also like to have a steady source of fresh eggs. Due to our storage
constraints, I purchase eggs on the way to deliver the food. If anyone wants to
donate cash for eggs, I would be happy to add that to my donation.

Thank you for your support of this outreach project.
St. Bart's Youth Group

Calling all youth 13 years and older to join our youth group. The meetings
will be held on Sundays at 6PM. We will continue to meet twice a month on
the second and fourth
Sundays. Together we will explore the bible and see
how it can apply to our daily life. We will also be talking about
how we can
help the church and community.

We would like to provide dinner for the youth group on the Sundays
we meet.
Please call Marlaina Knowlton at 804-897-1495 if you could
help with dinner any Sunday.
We will place a sign up sheet on the
bulletin board. Please consider helping by signing up. Thanks.
