A Message from the Reverend Andy Dunks

If a Picture is worth a thousand words,....

If you are looking for bite-sized bits of scripture and commentary to ruminate on, as I suggested last Sunday, the daily devotional email which is using this picture for the Lenten season is a great source.  Go to: LINK  to subscribe.

And for a true story about how much we difference we can make through simple acts of compassion as we let the Lord trim our self-preoccupied egos down to a useful size, consider this:

A couple of weeks ago, a disturbed young man got onto the metro train in Vancouver and began acting erratically and shouting and cursing.  As people in the car began moving away from him, one woman did the opposite.  A seventy-year old woman moved toward the man and reached out her hand and gently held his hand.  She just gently put her hand in his.  The man immediately calmed down, and then, sitting on the floor, began to cry.  Then after a little while, he got off the train saying only, "Thanks Grandma."  "She was very brave," the photographer who originally posted the story said. "She even mentioned that she thought about what would happen if he stabbed her with the pen -- because he had one in his hand -- but she said it was more important he didn't feel alone."  [Huffington Post, Feb. 11, 2016]

Our mission is to seek, serve, and celebrate Christ in every person.
We invite the community to worship with us, to share our gifts, and to grow in Christ's love.

So that's why we practice our spiritual disciplines - both for our own salvation and for the sake of becoming more brave and more compassionate when the opportunity comes to minister God's grace to others.

Remember the Baptismal vows we renewed with Bp. Gulick a few weeks ago?

Celebrant    Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself?

People         I will, with God's help.

Blessings,
