PLAN AHEAD

FWA'S SPRING MINI-CONFERENCE will be held April 20 in Altamonte Springs (near Orlando). Adrian Fogelin will be the keynoter, Vic DiGenti will present an all-day workshop on crime-writing, and a host of other luminaries round out the faculty. One-on-one agent interviews are available. SHOW YOUR STUFF

THE 2013 ROYAL PALM LITERARY AWARDS competition opens for submissions February 15 until June 15. The RPLA will judge in some 37 categories, and this year has added a separate Youth Writers component. Also new: Finalists will be determined and notified differently, Published books may now be submitted in either PDF or manuscript form, and maximum word counts for book-length entries have been abolished.

THE FWA COLLECTION #5 - IT'S A CRIME will be open for submissions starting February 1. "Crime" is the theme of this free short story contest, and the 2013 Collection Person of Renown is Pulitzer Prize winning author Edna Buchanan. Details can be found on the FWA website...

CHEERS FOR VOLUNTEERS

WINDOW PANE, A WRITERS GROUP MEETING IN VERO BEACH, has joined the FWA fold. Under the leadership of Janet Sierzant the group uses cold-critique techniques, has been meeting for two years, and welcomes all levels of writing talent.

WELCOME LAURA COGDILL as the new Writers Group Leader for the Havana Writers Group. Barbara McLay is stepping back from her leadership role due to travel, and we thank you for everything you've done for FWA and for Havana Writers!

WELCOME CINDY CAMPBELL
who is picking up the Writers Group Leader reins from Kate LeSar, who has led our Wesley Chapel Writers Group for quite some time, and is now tending to other obligations. Huge, huge thanks to Kate for everything she has done!

VOLUNTEER WITHOUT LEAVING HOME
. Interested in helping out  with the monthly eNews (this publication you're reading) or the FWA Network, our online community? Both of these resources offer the volunteer great opportunities to learn more about FWA and come in regular contact with other members. You don't have to be a total techie to help out, but you should be  very comfortable with technology. Training will be provided.  Contact Mary Ann de Stefano to apply.
WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT COMPANY NEEDED
FWA is planning to upgrade its Internet presence, and we're looking for a company with a track record for creating complex custom websites.

The right candidate will have demonstrable proficiency with website design and e-commerce, as well as the programming ability to integrate systems that address association administration issues such as membership management and events registration.

KAYE COPPERSMITH AWARD & BOOK
NOMINATIONS OPEN SOON for the second annual Kaye Coppersmith Award. Kaye was indeed the welcoming arms of FWA, known to many for her compassion, editing abilities, and boundless enthusiasm for all things FWA. The nomination guidelines and form will be posted to the website soon.

 

AN FWA LEGEND'S BOOK. Connie Francis, Butch Cassidy, and the Sundance Beetle, an e-book of humorous stories of times past by the late Kaye Coppersmith, is now available. Thanks to Eugene Orlando who compiled and edited it, you can download the book for your Kindle or Nook.  The book will also soon be available through FWA's The Top Shelf online bookstore. All profits will be donated to the Kaye Coppersmith Fund of Florida Writers Foundation for use in literacy efforts.
