FCA Action Alert
"Arts" are left out --
speak up before August 1
and ask they be included.

Before August 1, 2016:  It will take you two minutes to send the suggested recommendation below to the "Comment Now" section to the U.S. Department of Education regarding its proposed rules for the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).  States will refer to these rules -- it's important the "arts" be put back in these proposed rules.

Please take two minutes now to send the suggested recommendation below before August 1 to the U.S. Department of Education.

Below is a suggested comment for you to copy or edit and send on the "Comment Now" section to the U.S. Department of Education regarding these important rules:

Please restore the "arts" in the ESSA rules for Accountability, Data Reporting, and State Plans.  Furthermore, clearly define in writing that the "arts" include the subjects dance, media arts, music, theater, and visual arts as part of ESSA's definition of courses, activities, and programs for a "well-rounded" education.

Why Comment Now?  The "arts" are included in the definition of a well-rounded education within ESSA; however, the "arts" are not included in the U.S. Department of Education's proposed rules being developed for the states to use as a guideline in their development of their own ESSA State Accountability Plans.  The U.S. Department of Education is accepting comments before August 1 regarding these proposed rules.  Please follow through on this quick action alert.
